Lockdown diaries: Hong Kong fitfluencers' favourite at-home workouts

COVID-19 and the closure of Hong Kong gyms won't stop our fitfluencers (aka. fitness influencers) from moving. From their favourite at-home workouts to must-have cheat meals, find out how Hong Kong’s fitness enthusiasts are taking care of themselves during lockdown.

Utah Lee
First thing you do when you wake up:
Use mouthwash
Favourite at-home workout:
Everything abs
Favourite & least favourite workout move:
My favourite is HIIT. Least favourite? I don’t know, I like them all
Favourite activewear item(s):
Sports bra
Workout tunes/playlist that gets you going:
The latest pop, R&B and/or hip-hop tunes
What a typical day of meals look like:
Breakfast: Iced green tea + Redbull
Lunch: Noodles or dumplings in soup or something light
Dinner: Veggies/meat/fruits
Favourite healthy recipe:
Greek yogurt on whole-wheat toast
Favourite cheat meal:
Fried chicken!
Self-care practice:
Walking my dog and spending some alone-time away from my family
Tips to stay healthy during lockdown:
Mentally: try not to use devices too often, send fun and silly messages to friends and family, and practice mindfulness
Physically: get on your feet and move, plan and do something active with friends and family, even virtually

Keith Lee
First thing you do when you wake up:
Take my supplements with a glass of lukewarm water
Favourite at-home workout:
Push-ups at different angles
Favourite & least fave workout move:
The barbell bench press. Least favourite? Probably abs
Favourite activewear item(s):
An oversized hoodie even in the summer, just to keep myself sweating
Workout tunes/playlist that gets you going:
Depends on my mood, but most likely rock or metal
What a typical day of meals look like:
Breakfast: Overnight oats with chia seeds and eggs
Lunch: Chicken breast with broccoli
Dinner: Anything delicious
Favourite healthy recipe:
Chicken and broccoli, with lots of pepper!
Favourite cheat meal:
Takeaway fish and chips – salt and vinegar or ketchup on top (fully absorbed by the chips!)
Self-care practice:
Working out on a regular basis
Tips to stay healthy during lockdown:
Work out regularly, keep your diet clean and don’t forget to incorporate cheat meals into your diet! One should stay healthy both physically and mentally.

First thing you do when you wake up:
A 5-min breath check-in while still in bed
Favourite at-home workout:
AloMoves & Glo
Favourite & least fave workout move:
Resistance band crab walks, and anything involving cardio
Favourite activewear item(s):
Sweaty Betty Super Sculpt leggings
Workout tunes/playlist that gets you going:
The new album by BRONSON (i.e. Odesza and Golden Features)
What a typical day of meals look like:
Breakfast: I don’t normally eat breakfast
Lunch: Something light with soup like pho or dumplings
Dinner: Whatever delivery I’m in the mood for that day – mostly because I can’t cook
Favourite healthy recipe:
Coconut cookies from Deliciously Ella
Favourite cheat meal:
At-home hot pot dinners
Self-care practice:
Allowing myself to take naps when I need it, and having several hours a day where I put my phone on DND so I’m not “on-call” all the time.
Tips to stay healthy during lockdown:
Spend as much time in nature as you can, and with good company.

James Wong
First thing you do when you wake up:
Have breakfast
Favourite at-home workout:
A full-body routine with resistance bands and a focus on muscle stimulation.
Favourite & least fave workout move:
My favourite moves are pull-ups since they’re great for building back muscles with the least amount of equipment! I would say my least favourite would be burpees.
Favourite activewear item(s):
Anything from Puma, Reebok, Fila and Lululemon.
Workout tunes/playlist that gets you going:
Eminem and at times, hardstyle EDM
What a typical day of meals look like:
Breakfast: Overnight oats with protein
Lunch: Variation between chicken/fish and veggies
Dinner: Chinese cuisine, usually something with pork/beef/eggs/veggies
Favourite healthy recipe:
My homemade chicken breast burger
Favourite cheat meal:
Ice cream from Oddies Foodies!
Self care practice:
Have positive thoughts throughout the day, stay away from negativity and stay away from toxic people.
Tips to stay healthy during lockdown:
Structuring a workout and having loud music usually helps for me! Although it’s not as fun as doing it in the gym, you can buy resistance bands, dumbbells, and search online for various workout programmes/exercises to do at home.

Stephanie Cuvelier
First thing you do when you wake up:
Listen to a guided meditation and do some gentle mobility exercises
Favourite at-home workout:
A simple kettlebell circuit (4-5 exercises, full body exercises, repeat 4-5 rounds) or a mobility flow while playing some of my favourite tunes
Favourite & least fave workout move:
My favourite work out move is split squats, and my least favourite would probably be push ups.
Favourite activewear item(s):
My Nike AeroSwift shorts and Nike Yoga Luxe Indy bra. They’re made from a super-lightweight material that's perfect for sweaty beings like myself!
Workout tunes/playlist that gets you going:
I have an upbeat playlist that never fails to get a smile on my face and get me in the mood for a workout! It’s called “calibrate ~ upbeat”.
What a typical day of meals look like:
Breakfast: Some form of eggs (scrambled, poached, boiled) and/or Greek yoghurt with berries
Lunch: A loaded veggie omelette or fish/chicken with veggies
Dinner: Fish/chicken with veggies
Favourite healthy recipe:
150g Greek yoghurt mixed with ½ scoop chocolate protein powder, topped off with a handful of mixed berries and sprinkled with cacao nibs!
Favourite cheat meal:
Dough Bros sourdough pizza (their veggie one with the caramelised onions and feta cheese is bomb!)
Self care practice:
Meditation and going for walks in nature to detoxify my system from all of the technology and daily stresses of life.
Tips to stay healthy during lockdown:
Keep on moving and remember to switch off! Schedule regular work breaks and learn basic stretches or mobility drills to incorporate into your daily routine, a few times per day. We aren’t designed to stay in static positions for long periods, so keep on moving. Also, try to get outside for some fresh air.
