The storied legacy of Leica expands into horology with the launch of the ZM watch collection, reflecting precision and design excellence

Leica Camera AG unveiled its latest venture into the world of horology with the launch of the Leica ZM watch collection. This new line of timepieces, which includes the ZM 1, ZM 2, and ZM 11 models, embodies the same commitment to precision and craftsmanship that has defined Leica’s photographic legacy for over a century.

Founded in 1863 by Ernst Leitz I, who honed his skills as a watchmaker before establishing Leica, the brand has always been synonymous with quality. The ZM collection pays homage to this heritage, offering a blend of technical sophistication and elegant design. Each watch is crafted in Germany, ensuring that the meticulous standards associated with Leica cameras are mirrored in their timepieces.

The ZM 1 and ZM 2 are characterised by their minimalist aesthetics, while the ZM 11 stands out as a tribute to both photography and mechanical precision. Designed by Achim Heine, these watches reflect Leica's philosophy of focusing on essentials and timeless elegance. Dr Andreas Kaufmann, chairman of Leica Camera AG, expressed enthusiasm for this new chapter in the company’s history, stating that watches represent a fascinating addition to Leica’s portfolio.

Collaboration has been key in bringing these watches to life. Renowned watchmaker Jean-François Mojon contributed his expertise to develop a high-precision Swiss automatic movement for the ZM 11, while industrial designer Marcus Eilinger ensured that iconic elements of Leica's design language were incorporated throughout the collection.
