A round-up of where and what to eat this art month, from artful venues to creative menus

The Clipper Lounge

Until 31 March, the Clipper Lounge at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, presents an exclusive afternoon tea curated by executive pastry chef Paul Chan, marking a harmonious meeting of culinary craftsmanship and contemporary tea artistry. Thoughtfully paired with three Saicho single-origin sparkling teas – the newly launched Osmanthus, alongside Darjeeling and Hojicha – this limited-time collaboration features Banksy-style “balloon” desserts and vibrant Murakami-inspired pistachio and red fruit cakes, as well as a selection of savoury sandwiches and the hotel’s signature scones. Guests will also receive two bespoke mystery boxes, each with a limited-edition mini Saicho bottle hand painted with delicate botanical motifs by Hong Kong illustrator Rebecca Lin.

Grissini

Grissini, the beloved Italian gem at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, is perfectly positioned for Art Basel visitors – right next to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. Since 1989, this elegant yet relaxed spot has specialised in authentic Italian cuisine, with a focus on flavours from the Campania region. Begin with their legendary house-made Grissini breadsticks (the restaurant’s namesake) – crisp and addictive with olive oil and balsamic glaze – then move on to dishes like Battuta di Manzo, chef Valerio Giuseppe Mandile’s twist on the beef tartare with creamy buffalo yoghurt, chicken consommé jelly and Oscietra caviar; and the signature Pollo Piemontese Cotto in Pentola d’Argilla, featuring Hong Kong three-yellow chicken baked in a Roman clay pot and paired with morel mushrooms and potatoes to soak up all the glorious juices. Round off with a portion of Tiramisu all’Amaretto – a light and fluffy sabayon made with free-range eggs and Galbani mascarpone, laced with a generous splash of amaretto and infused with a perfectly balanced syrup of three varieties of ground coffees.

Duddell’s

Equal parts art gallery and fine-dining destination, the one-Michelin-starred Duddell’s serves refined traditional Cantonese cuisine crafted with luxury ingredients. Signature highlights include delicate dim sum such as Steamed pork and shrimp dumpling with Australian scallop and fish roe, alongside golden baked Barbecued pork bun and Deep-fried taro puff with South African dried abalone. Must-order classics feature Honey-glazed barbecued pork, tableside-carved Duddell’s Peking Duck, and the Duddell’s Crispy Fried Chicken, a perennial favourite meticulously prepared by ladling hot oil over ten-hour marinated locally raised Longjiang chicken more than 300 times for paper-thin crispness and impossibly tender meat.

Recently reimagined in 2025 by acclaimed designer André Fu Studio, the interiors draw inspiration from Lingnan culture and the iconic 1920s Diao Lou watchtowers of Guangdong – fortified multi-storey residences that blend Western architectural flourishes with traditional Chinese layours. Chinoiserie-inspired pendants and intricate hand-crafted stained-glass screens adorn the space, set against a soft, whimsical palette of pistachio green, mineral blue and buttery yellow.

Akira Back

This month, Akira Back at The Henderson joins the city’s vibrant art month celebrations with Palette to Palate: The Art Series, an exclusive, limited‑time dining experience reflecting the spirit of creativity through chef Akira Back’s signature modern Japanese cuisine, enriched with global influences. As a culminating highlight of art week – with chef Akira Back taking the helm in the kitchen for two evenings only on 27 and 28 March – the five-course tasting menu is thoughtfully composed to deliver a memorable multi sensory experience.

The meal unfolds with Hassun (AB Trio Bites), made up of wagyu steak tartare crowned with quail egg yolk and nashi pear, AB Garden Pizza and umami-rich tuna belly finished with shoyu and fresh ikura. This is followed by a striking Steamed Butter Fish, delicately layered with braised radish over bright lotus root ponzu; then Roasted Quail, cooked to perfection with crisp golden skin and tender meat using a mix of Japanese and Korean ingredients. The highlight is the Snow Crab Clay Pot Rice, a twist on a beloved comfort classic with freshly extracted snow crab and enhanced with fermentation elements inspired by traditional Korea techniques. The experience concludes with the playful AB Cigar – a sculptural dessert shaped as a resting rolled cigar and dusted with sesame “ash”. Inside, layers of smoked coffee mousse and tart strawberry jelly create a sophisticated interplay of richness and brightness, ensuring a memorable finale.
