Discover the best restaurants in Bangkok – from legendary street stalls to refined chef’s tables – as recommended by some of our city’s top foodies

In Bangkok, a humble, generations-old shophouse serving a single, perfected dish can command as much reverence as a chic, gastronomy-focused dining room helmed by a Michelin-star-studded chef. Navigating this delicious, complex universe requires more than just a list of the best restaurants in Bangkok – an “essential” Bangkok restaurant is more than a Michelin nod or a perfected pad thai. It might be a no-frills stall that has achieved legendary status for its oyster omelettes, a family-run kitchen where a former royal cook’s recipes live on, or a modern chef’s table dedicated to reviving long-lost ingredients.

This list, curated by some of our city’s favourite Instagram foodies, is a guide to the multifaceted heart of dining in this city. Consider it a framework, for Bangkok is a place of endless exploration, and the best way to make your way through it is on foot, fork and spoon in hand.

Gaengsod, meaning ‘freshly made curry’, is a new concept opened by celebrity chef Thitid “Ton” Tassanakajohn. Their dishes are influenced by southern Thai cuisine, and all their Thai curry is made from scratch – super spicy and flavourful!”

“If I had to recommend one restaurant and one bar in Bangkok, I would choose Wana Yook and Messenger Service. Wana Yook offers the perfect blend of finesse and casual ambiance. Their curry rice concepts are exceptional, and they truly serve the best rice and cured egg yolk. Messenger Service is a must-visit for cocktail enthusiasts! I absolutely love their creative selection of savoury cocktails.”

Thong Smith is one of my easy go-tos in Bangkok. They’ve taken classic Thai boat noodles and elevated them using high-quality ingredients, without losing the soul of the dish. Despite the premium feel, it’s still great value for the money. The rich, dark broth is full of flavour and perfect for anyone looking for an easy entry into local Thai flavours. Don’t forget to add the pork meatballs on the side!”

Ms. Maria & Mr. Singh delivers an unforgettable ‘fantasy cuisine’ experience through its bold Mexican-Indian fusion. This vibrant spot, inspired by a love story between a Mexican woman and an Indian man, masterfully blends spices, textures, and home-style dishes from both cultures.”

Nestled in Dusit Central Park, Downtown by Fran’s redefines the cafe experience with its lively atmosphere and innovative all-day menu that offers variety of creative comfort food. It takes the brunch vibes we know and love, and injects them with a shot of urban energy, making it the perfect spot for both a quick escape and a leisurely brunch. My favourites are the syrup-drenched Pig & Potato in a Blanket and the impeccably crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich!

At Sàat, chef Saki meticulously blends traditional Thai flavors with modern techniques and a touch of Japanese influence, creating uniquely artful dishes that reflect her finesse. The savory offerings are as impressive as the dessert creations, exemplifying the care and thought chef Saki puts in ingredient selection and execution. Standout dishes include the Noodle Salad, Crab Curry Crispy Flatbread, the indulgent Claypot Brioche with shio koji ice-cream, and the playful “Corn Corn Corn!”.

Lastly, Sühring stands as a beacon of modern German cuisine in Asia, where twin chefs Mathias and Thomas Sühring reimagine their heritage with contemporary flair and incredible artistry. Expect playful dishes, impeccable service and a dining experience that’s both elegant and surprisingly cozy.

“If you’re looking for a great dining experience, try the Michelin Guide recommended Soma Bangkok, which reimagines the tradition of ‘samrub’, or shared dining, with inventive, cross-cultural dishes. The ingredients shine through, and the flavours are bold but balanced – their signature Massaman curry is something special and worth ordering. As for drinks, swing by Dry Wave Cocktail Studio, a trendy bar best known for its creative ‘Super Classic’ cocktails that artfully blend two classic recipes into one unique creation. It’s ranked fifth on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2025 list for good reason.”

“I’d highly recommend The Bamboo Bar, located at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Bangkok. It’s one of the city’s oldest and most iconic bars, with a history dating back to 1953. A must-visit for cocktail enthusiasts and jazz lovers, it offers a 1940s jazz club vibe, expert cocktails and live jazz, beautifully blending history and flavour.”

“My chosen restaurant is Sorn. As Thailand’s first ever restaurant to reach three Michelin stars, it is the ultimate foodie destination in Bangkok. You’ll get a delicious taste of Southern Thailand in the most elegant way possible. Keep an eye out on their Instagram page in order to bag a table!”

Nusara was so much more than just a meal – it felt like a really special experience. Set inside a stunning heritage building with jaw-dropping views of the Royal Palace, the night unfolded so thoughtfully, from a welcome drink at the bar to playful bites served in the kitchen, even guiding us through hidden corners of the restaurant. The Blue Swimming Crab Curry was my absolute favourite – so flavourful and comforting. A beautiful balance of Thai tradition and elegance, and a dinner I’ll remember for a long time.”
