A shirt and jeans is one the most basic outfits known to man, and thus one of the hardest to pull off. Because finding the perfect versions of each – and wearing them together – requires you to know what shirt goes with which jeans best, and which colours and washes just won’t jive. This summer, take a cue from #legend100 Tim Fung and re-up your short-sleeve shirts. Keep the bottoms simple, especially if your top has a bold pattern.

Colourful gemstones are often eclipsed by diamonds, but don’t underestimate what a flash of green, red, blue or orange in a piece of jewellery can add to an ensemble. Think of the instant lift coral, turquoise or malachite give a breezy white summer dress, or what emeralds, rubies and sapphires give to a classic button-down shirt or cocktail dress. They can also bring a desired warm or cool tone to the face.
