We’ve asked our community for the hottest events they’ve marked down in their diaries this month. Be it art, food or entertainment, our plugged-in friends know what’s most happening

“I have two spots to recommend in my neighbourhood of Sai Kung. The first is Cuít, a coffee shop with some of the best sourdough in Hong Kong! It’s also pet-friendly, which is important for me, and has chill vibes. There’s outdoor seating as well for those who want to sit outside and enjoy the weather. The second place is Seafood Street. I’m a seafood lover and this street is lined with many traditional Hong Kong–style seafood restaurants, offering delicious seafood from shrimp and crab to fish and clams. You can also buy fresh catches from the fishermen on the boats. I enjoy walking along this street in the evenings when it comes alive with music and laughter, providing a perfect setting for enjoying a delicious seafood feast while soaking in the lively ambience of the city. Sai Kung in general gives me peace, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I can enjoy a slower pace of life, making me feel
relaxed all the time.”

“Every weekend I’ll go past Kam Sheung Road. And I don’t think many people know, but there’s actually a flea market there, selling everything from vintage clothing to pet treats and traditional Hong Kong snacks like candy and coconut wrap. If I’m lucky, I’ll find something cute to take home with me like a nice shirt. Sometimes there’s also busking, or I’ll see people walking their dogs or elderly practising martial arts. It really is a place full of surprises!”

“I want to start off with restaurants and bars. Thai May May is an authentic, down- to-earth Thai restaurant in Kowloon City. The food is super fresh with just the right amount of spice, and I love how hearty and homemade everything feels. The vibe is great too and the restaurant owner is so nice. Then there’s Dio. It’s a bar in Soho and
I think they have great, well-crafted cocktails. A lot of them are inspired by Hong Kong and the cuisine we have here, so I think it’s very special.

Next, I have quite a few music venues to recommend. Visage One I’d say is the most “underground” of them all. It’s not a bar or a restaurant, it’s just a space for people to go in and enjoy high-quality music. They also invite artists from all over the world. I definitely recommend this one to music lovers, especially jazz lovers. I also like Coda, which is a jazz café/bar/restaurant kind of place. They have pretty solid acoustics with nice food. Lastly, Fountain de Chopin. It’s a jazz education hub, I would say, but also a performing centre. They feature a lot of local, up-and-coming artists, and well-established ones too.

In terms of nature, I recently visited Po Toi, which is one of my favourite islands in Hong Kong. It’s so serene and it feels completely out of touch, in a good way. I think if you feel like you need a vacation or want to get out of the city, Po Toi is a great place. It has beautiful greenery, a beautiful hiking trail and a beautiful sea view. And the seafood is absolutely amazing! But if you’re looking for a more accessible option, Chi Lin Nunnery. I go there from time to time and they have a great atmosphere. I’m not religious in that way, but it’s a very peaceful place where I go to relax, be at peace and just ponder. ”
