Inside Leonardo DiCaprio's Spanish colonial Los Feliz property

Leonard DiCaprio buys the California home, previously belonging to Gwen Stefani and Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, for his mother
Spanish colonial architecture has seen a rise in popularity since the early 20th century. A combination of Spanish Baroque, Mexican, Mission Revival and Islamic style elements were infused in the designs of architects Bertram Goodhue and Carleton Winslow when they designed a campus of buildings to facilitate the San Diego exposition in the early 1900s.
Low-pitched red tile roofs with white stucco walls, arched windows and doorways, courtyards and wrought-iron features quickly became the rage.
Fast-forward to 2021 – about a century later – these Spanish colonial-style homes are still very much in demand. While many celebrities have taken their investments out of California due to high taxes, there is one notable Hollywood royalty who continues to invest in The Golden State, this is megastar Leonardi DiCaprio.
A gem in Los Feliz
DiCaprio resides in a property located on Sunset Strip, which is only a 30-min drive from Los Feliz, an area where he bought a home for his father, George DiCaprio a few years back for US$4.9 million.
More recently, he purchased the Los Feliz home of Modern Family star, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, for his mother, Irmelin Indenbirken, for $7.1 million. The same home was previously owned by Gwen Stefani.

The Specs
The house sits on almost 5,000 square feet of land with plenty of outdoor spaces. Almost all the rooms open up to landscaped terraces, gardens, courtyards and fountains. There is also a view of the Griffith Observatory.
Built in 1928 and completely updated since, the property comes with four bedrooms and six baths, formal living and dining rooms with tall ceilings and Juliette balconies overlooking one another. You will also find a detached meditation-yoga room and separate bathroom by the pool and spa.
The house comes with features that are distinctive of Spanish colonial architecture. From sweeping staircases and arched doorways to the tiled roof and floors. Stained-glass windows and elegant baths are all part of the deal.
DiCaprio is known to own an impressive portfolio of real estate. From an LA home he bought from Madonna in the 1990s, a Palm Springs-based mid-century modern home built for Dinah Shore he acquired in 2014, and a $23 million Malibu home purchased in 2017. He also owns a New York City apartment and an island in Belize.
The actor is bound to feature in a new film. Following in the footsteps of other Hollywood A-listers such as Scarlett Johansson, Keanu Reeves, Ann Hathaway among others, DiCaprio is to co-star with Jennifer Lawrence in the Netflix film Don’t Look Up to be released late 2021.
