David Ho checks out where the stars check in when they visit Asia
Being on the road as a celebrity can’t be easy. You need to contend with hordes of fans and paparazzi, an entourage and full wardrobe to consider, and stay in close proximity to where you need to be and want to see. It can make travel even more cumbersome than for us mere mortals.
The plus side is that stars can go for the best in luxury stays. Here are some of the hotels the rich and famous have been known to stay in when they come to Asia.
Singapore
Taylor Swift is said to be staying at Capella in Singapore, as she is currently in town for a six-night show of The Eras Tour. Capella is located on Sentosa island and boasts 30 acres of lush, vibrant gardens and rainforest, with a view of the South China Sea. Maybe Swift’s next big hit will be written there?
Hong Kong
BlackPink in your area! In this case, it was the Central area when they stayed at the Murray in Hong Kong. Standing at 26 floors high on the already elevated Cotton Tree Drive, it gives one a bird’s eye view of Hong Kong’s iconic city skyline and Botanical Gardens. We hope the K-pop girl group has time to soak in the sensational scenery around them when they were here.
South Korea
In South Korea, celebrities such as Tom Cruise and David Beckham have been known to opt for Signiel Seoul. It offers a view like no other, as it is the only hotel located on the 76th to 101st floors of Lotte World Tower, the tallest building in Korea. From there, one can enjoy the panoramic skyline and fantastic night view of Seoul from any of the 235 rooms.
Tokyo
The exterior of The Imperial Hotel in Tokyo may seem understated and humble. But don’t be fooled, it has a celebrity guest list like no other, from Albert Einstein and Marilyn Monroe to Margaret Thatcher and the King of Spain Juan Carlos I. As one might gather, the hotel has been around for awhile, providing 13 decades of hospitality since the late 1880’s when It was created to accommodate the growing number of Western visitors at the behest of the Japanese aristocracy. As expected of such an institution, its main building has been through many iterations. A new fourth Imperial Hotel is being built but not expected to be completed until 2036.
Bangkok
The Siam Hotel in Bangkok has welcomed guests like Madonna and Katy Perry when they visited Thailand. The chic hotel is located along the Chao Phraya River, so it’s away from the thick of the hustle and bustle. But it’s only a 30-minute ride away to the city’s centre, either by car or boat. In a city brimming over with activity, it makes for a rare oasis of peace.
