Get ready to cheer for the best of Hong Kong’s athletic talent as they push their limits on the stage of the Olympics. This year, Team Hong Kong will be represented by 35 outstanding athletes, including gold medalist Edgar Cheung Ka-long and silver medalist Siobhán Haughey, who represented the Special Administrative Region in the Tokyo Olympics. A returning collaboration with Fila was revealed with a design launch held at Sky 100 on 25 June. Let’s all wish Team Hong Kong the best of luck so that there will be more appearances of Fila’s signature Settanta Jacket on the podium!

China

Team China has once again partnered with its long-term sponsor, Anta, to create an official uniform that perfectly blends tradition and innovation. With a minimalist design in classic red, and featuring traditional elements such as Loong whiskers, this eco-friendly uniform is a first for the team, boasting a carbon-neutral footprint. Anta has also launched a new IP, Anta Ling Loong, to showcase an unconventional image of the Chinese dragon.

Mongolia

Team Mongolia has secured a winning place in the fashion competition. One of the comments summarised its uniform collection precisely: This is Mongolian Haute Couture! The stunning pieces are designed by Mongolia’s homegrown talents, Michel & Amazonka, who founded one of the most progressive fashion brands in the nation.

With gold embroidery details of national and Olympic symbols on Mongolian deel clothing, the fit will be accessorised with traditional boots, earrings, hats, and even handbags. Thank you Team Mongolia for spicing up this fashion game for us!

In the meantime, Team Chinese Taipei established its first uniform collaboration with Japanese sports brand Yonex. Inspired by the blue and red colours on the team’s logo, the uniform is made out of recycled fibres and decorated by native Taiwanese plant elements.

South Korea

The North Face’s exclusive South Korean distributor, Yeongwon Outdoor, presented this year’s uniform with 23 items. Inspired by the theme Gangwa, meaning water, the uniform features a color palette of blue and red, as well as Taegeuk patterns and calligraphy elements. From everyday wear to award-winning uniforms, the kits have been designed for maximum breathability, lightweight, and comfort.

Thailand

With the tagline “Be Our Spirit”, Team Thailand’s jerseys are provided by Grand Sport. The manufacturer incorporated materials developed from plastic bottles, in line with the Paris Olympic Committee’s sustainability mission. The collaboration also celebrates Thai culture with patterns inspired by the Ban Chiang community’s local techniques.

Japan

With three themes, conditioning, sustainability, and diversity, in mind, Team Japan’s supporter Asics aims to provide uniforms that balance functionality and eco-friendliness. The standout pieces include podium jackets in a striking sunrise red and short sleeves adorned with the Yagasuri pattern, a traditional Japanese design symbolising strength, and determination. By making different shirts using the same piece of fabric, Asics reinforces the message of unity in diversity.

Italy

All eyes are on Italy as it is home to many of the world’s leading fashion maisons. Team Italy’s EA7 kit was designed by Emporio Armani. It was unveiled during the presentation of the Emporio Armani Men’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, with six Olympic and six Paralympic athletes walking the Armani/Teatro catwalk. The sleek navy fits is an understated cool and the kind of chic we’ve come to expect from Armani.

Canada

Get ready to see Canadian athletes make a fashion statement at the upcoming games, thanks to their collaboration with the iconic brand Lululemon. The collection highlights signature Canadian elements across art, and architecture, as well as innovative designs such as the rain poncho that can fit in a kangaroo pocket. The local brand also invested effort to collaborate with 19 athletes across 14 different sports to ensure the perfect fit and practicality of the uniforms. Fans are eagerly anticipating the opening ceremony when the shade of red shows up on the Seine River.

Great Britain

With embroideries of flowers of the four nations (rose, thistle, daffodil, and shamrock), the bomber jacket that Team Great Britain will be wearing to the opening ceremony conveys a clear message: unity and pride. Ben Sherman has been a proud partner of Team GB for three years in a row, and this year’s design combines a contemporary attitude with traditional heritage.

Meanwhile, Adidas has unveiled Team GB’s official game kits, featuring a bold navy blue with red and white accents – a nod to the country’s signature colours. While some have criticised the simplicity of the design, Adidas has defended it as a way to preserve tradition and create a sleek look. To prioritise functionality or creativity in a game suit? That is a question that all designers face when it comes to making sportswear for the Olympics.

USA

Ralph Lauren is back for the ninth year to style Team USA, and this time, it’s bringing a modern American preppy look to the games. The athletes will be wearing single-breasted navy blazers paired with oxford shirts and tapered jeans in the opening ceremony. And we can expect a full white look complete with racing jackets, polo shirts, and jeans in the closing show. The American dream is truly woven into the fabric of the games.

For the games itself, the Team USA track and field kit presented by Nike is undoubtedly a controversial one, particularly for its revealing design featuring a high-rise Brazilian cut on the women’s kit. The design has faced criticism from both the public and athletes themselves, who argue that it lacks respect for female players. However, the internationally famed brand has responded by saying that it was created with the needs of better performances and athletes’ physiques in mind. It has also assured athletes that the controversial kit will only be one of many options available to them.

France

The list won’t be complete without mentioning the host of the grand gathering, France. Berluti, with 1,500 fits, 14 sizes, and 180 hard-working members, made sure every detail of the momentous moment was perfect. From tuxedo, shirt, belt, and scarf to shoes, every item exudes French elegance. The midnight-blue wool fabric paved the ground for confidence, and the boundaryless mix of blue and red on the shawl collar makes the garment a stand-out piece. Now, all eyes on France, and their glamour attire.

In an effort to revitalise the local industry, talented designer and artistic director Stephane Ashpool collaborated with French sports brand Le Coq Sportif to produce a collection of game and award kits that are cool, elegant, and modern. With bleu, blanc, and rouge colour blending harmoniously on the iridescent fabric, the design is undoubtedly refreshing. And this is precisely what we need in 2024 on the stage of the Olympics.
