Experiences to treat mum and yourself to on Mother's Day

May 08, 2024

Make this Mother’s Day a special one with experiences to remember for both you and mum. David Ho offers some suggestions

Spa day at The Mira

You don’t need to travel to Japan to soak up the sakura season vibes. The MiraSpa now offers a Sakura & Sake Spa Ritual (HK$3,580 (original price: HK$4,600) for two on weekdays and HK$3,680 (original price: HK$4,700) on weekends and public holidays), which is a two-and-half hour session of pampering in the privacy of the spa suite. It starts with an invigorating soak in the hot tub and continues with a 90-minute sakura-scented aromatherapy massage.

We thoroughly enjoyed the welcome sake and cherry blossom mousse cake with matcha. After the pampering ritual, you (and mother dear) can make use of the wellness facilities there for the day, including the award-winning heavenly waterbed lounge, dazzling infinity pool, and gym. In between these sessions, you can bring mum to Cuisine Cuisine at The Mira to try their new set menu filled with delicate seafood and harmoniously prepared Cantonese specials dedicated to promoting longevity and beauty.

Afternoon tea at The Upper House

The Upper House has teamed up with Hotel Café Royal in London on a new menu for their English afternoon tea experience at Salisterra. An iconic venue in London since 1865, Hotel Café Royal has played host to some of the most illustrious guests, ranging from rockstars to royalty. Now, you can bring mum along to enjoy an authentic Hotel Café Royal experience, with the bonus of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline and Victoria Harbour as your view.

There will be an array of savoury delights and sweets guided by recipes from Hotel Café Royal’s Executive Pastry Chef Loic Carbonnet. This includes a truffle gougère amuse-bouche, a selection of tea sandwiches, a refreshing raspberry elderflower sorbet, Salisterra’s famous fluffy scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, and an assortment of bite-sized desserts (pear yuzu vanilla tart, strawberries with vanilla cremeux and jam, chocolate and praline éclair, and raspberry baba). From now until 30 June 2024, the special tea set is available at HK$680 for two from Monday to Thursdays and HK$718 for two from Friday to Sunday.

For a pair of 90-minute facial or body treatments (facials at HK$2950+ per person; body treatments from HK$2050+ per person), both guests will receive a complimentary 15-minute eye treatment using Swiss beauty brand Dr Levy’s lifting machine with eye cream application and a nourishing delight from Spa Café after the treatments. In addition, both guests will also be gifted with complete travel sets by Dr Levy, along with bracelets by niin jewelry. Beauty and bling makes for quite a winning combo to thank mum for her love.

Sweet treat with recipe at Melody House of Food and Music

Melody House of Food and Music has added a mouthwatering Mother’s Day exclusive to their brunch menu. Chef Jamie Draper is giving mothers the gift of his own mother’s baking, in the form of a complimentary slice of Victoria sponge cake, layered with vanilla chantilly cream and sweet strawberry jam, along with a pot of comforting Earl Grey tea.

That’s not all, mama Marilyn’s Victoria sponge cake recipe will be gifted to mums along with their special slice so that they can recreate the memory at home. It’s been awhile since we’ve had a cake baking experience, so why not bring mum for a treat that you can recreate together later?
