New York-based iconic Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) will open its first design store in Greater China in August 2019. The Hong Kong branch, located in the new K11 Musea, will be MoMA’s largest design store in Asia. The other two stores in the region are located in Tokyo and Kyoto.
The store will display a unique collection of design items and gifts that take inspiration from MoMA’s impressive collection. It will also have exclusive products and limited-edition objects specifically selected for the new Hong Kong branch, as well as some of the museum’s publications.
MoMA will also celebrate the city by implementing local designs in the store’s architecture. In order to do so, it has collaborated with Edge Design, a Hong Kong based architect company famous for exalting the vibrant design identity of the city.
To add to the experience, local ambassadors will regularly be at the store to tell the stories behind each item and help visitors and customers learn what is required to create a “good design.”
