We know what you’re thinking – impossible, right? There’s no way that you could see the Northern Lights in Hong Kong, but you can get a little bit closer to crossing that off your bucket list at The Peninsula Hong Kong this Christmas.

Inspired by the Nordics

The Grand Dame’s latest hotel package, titled “Festive World – A Nordic Inspiration,” transports guests right into a winter wonderland with decked out guestrooms, a Northern Light inspired turn-down and even a fireplace for those staying in the hotel’s harbour view suites. Plus, for those staying over on Christmas (25 December) itself, don’t be surprised if you get a visit from a “festive guest of honour” – here’s hoping s/he’ll knock first.

Limited to just a select number of guestrooms (from 1 December 2020 to 3 January 2021), the “Festive World – A Nordic Inspiration” package comes with daily breakfast for two in The Lobby, HK$500 dining credit for use at the hotel restaurants (except Imasa), and one of four historical journeys curated by The Peninsula Hong Kong:

  • Motoring journey to learn about the 1934 Rolls-Royce vintage
  • Aviation journey with a history tour and visit to the hotel’s helipad
  • Grand Dame journey to learn about the hotel’s fascinating past, and
  • Cinematic journey to watch classic movies in one of the hotel’s lesser-known venues.

New amenities

While you’re there, you’ll be one of the first to enjoy The Peninsula’s new guest room amenities, which they’ve created in partnership with local artisanal perfumers in each of The Peninsula Hotels’ home cities. For Hong Kong, master perfumer Angel Cheung has created a specific scent with jasmine, agarwood and amber to be infused in the bathroom amenities.

“It’s my greatest honour to be invited to create a bespoke fragrance for The Peninsula Hong Kong. As a Hongkonger, I have a strong sense of connection to this iconic hotel, and great respect for its long heritage and acclaimed service. It is a privilege to narrate the story of the property with an exquisite scent.”

Made with natural ingredients including shea butter, sweet almond oil and olive oil, the new eco-friendly amenities are gluten-, soy-, and chemical-free without any parabens, silicone or sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) – and housed in containers made from 45% recycled sources.

Other activities

While you’re there, why not try your hand at some festive arts and crafts hosted by Anastassia’s Art House? Each 90-minute workshop is priced at HK$180 per person per class and will have you making 3D Christmas ornaments, painting and collaging reindeer and elves on canvas and DIY-ing your own masks and hats for New Year’s Eve (see the schedule here).

If arts and crafts aren’t quite your thing, how about a trip to the spa? Our top picks from the Peninsula Spa include the VOYA ‘Mindful Dreams’ sleep ritual to get a good night’s sleep (HK$1,990 for 90 mins) and Margy’s Monte Carlo’s Super-Lift Haute Couture Facial to emerge from your staycation looking younger than ever (HK$3,450 for 90 mins).

All those activities are sure to make you hungry, so here are a few ideas on where to spend your dining credit:

Stories from the Tree

Last but not least, don’t miss your chance to join in the Peninsula’s annual Christmas tradition of telling “Stories from the Tree,” featuring six festive characters including Reindeer, Robin, Nutcracker and Gingerbread Man. This year, Robin will be highlighted with his very own story, which can be downloaded from Peninsula’s website as a complimentary e-book along with the stories from the previous years (including The Gingerbread Man’s Tale and The Nutcracker’s Adventure).

The Festive World – A Nordic Inspiration package at Peninsula Hong Kong is available to book from now until 26 December 2020 for stays from December 2020 through to 3 January 2021. Rates start at HK$3,280 per room; visit peninsula.com for more information.
