The Air Command takes inspiration from a legendary Blancpain chronograph that aviators relied on back in the 1950s. This original model was all about precision timing, crucial for navigating the skies. The new versions keep that vintage vibe alive while adding a contemporary twist.

Available in two sizes - 42.5 mm and 36.2 mm - these watches are crafted from titanium grade 23, known for its lightweight and durable properties. With only 200 pieces of the larger model and 100 of the smaller being produced, they’re definitely on the exclusive side. Each watch features a countdown bezel and luminescent markers that make it easy to read, even in low light.

Cutting-edge mechanics

What sets these timepieces apart is their impressive technical capabilities. They’re powered by self-winding movements - Calibre F188B for the smaller model and Calibre F388B for the larger one - both featuring a flyback function. This nifty feature allows pilots to reset their timing with just one press, making it far more efficient than traditional chronographs that require multiple steps.

The Calibre F388B also boasts a frequency of 5 Hz, which translates to tenth-of-a-second accuracy - a real game-changer for anyone needing precise timing in the air.

Stylish design

Visually, the Air Command watches are striking. The vintage Super-LumiNova used on the hands and numerals ensures they stand out against the camouflage green dial, while the sapphire crystal has a unique "glass box" shape that adds depth to the overall look. The leather strap’s stitching perfectly matches the watch’s colour scheme, creating a cohesive aesthetic.

One particularly charming detail is the 18K gold rotor shaped like an old-school aircraft propeller, visible through the transparent case back. This design choice is a lovely nod to the collection’s aviation roots.

A celebration of aviation history

Blancpain's new Air Command models are more than just timepieces; they are a celebration of aviation history and watchmaking excellence. Whether you choose to buy them individually or as a matching pair - complete with unique serial numbers - they offer a stylish way to commemorate special moments or relationships.

With their blend of vintage style and modern technology, these watches invite both seasoned collectors and newcomers to experience a piece of aviation heritage on their wrists. The Air Command collection is not just about telling time; it’s about connecting with a legacy that soars through history.
