After a two-year hiatus from the runway, Bella Hadid is back in a dazzling new role as global ambassador of Chopard. The supermodel talks to Chloe Lyu about jewellery, sustainability and spreading joie de vivre
Bella Hadid, one of the brightest stars in the global fashion industry, recently made a stunning return to the catwalk after a two-year hiatus. The comeback was accompanied by more exciting news: Swiss luxury brand Chopard has named the supermodel its new global ambassador.
Hadid’s appointment was unveiled in September with “Sculpted by Light”, a captivating campaign for the minimalist, geometric Ice Cube collection. But her relationship with the brand goes back much further, thanks to a close friendship with co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele as well as a shared commitment to making a positive impact on the planet.
How does it feel to be Chopard’s new global ambassador?
I couldn’t be happier! Wearing Chopard’s haute joaillerie pieces at Cannes allowed me to appreciate the gorgeous craftsmanship, the empowering design, and the lightness and comfort of their jewels. I also admire Chopard’s pioneering spirit in sustainability and ethical gold. Most importantly, I share a special bond with the Scheufele family [that owns Chopard], especially Caroline, who designs jewellery with women in mind and has a knack for making luxury feel effortless and natural. It is a true honour to partner with Chopard.
What does jewellery mean to you?
Jewellery is all about expression for me. I change up my clothes every day, but I keep the same pieces of jewellery on for weeks on end. It’s more than an accessory to me, it becomes part of my identity.
In the latest campaign, you wear Chopard’s emblematic Happy Diamonds creations. What do you think of this collection, and how do you like to wear it?
The first time I saw a Chopard watch with diamonds floating on the surface, when I was a little girl, I was mesmerised. It was like watching a magician perform a trick. The Happy Diamonds collection reminds me that happiness is composed of fleeting moments. Wearing Happy Diamonds is a beautiful reminder to cherish each moment of our
lives with grace and wonder. My favourite piece is the Happy Hearts bangle, which Caroline offered me in Cannes back in 2021. I instantly loved it as it’s so simple and elegant.
How is this Chopard campaign different from other campaigns you’ve done before? What emotions did you want to convey?
It’s one of my first campaigns since I came back to work, and I’m grateful and touched that they welcomed me back with such open arms. I hope everyone will feel the positive energy, confidence and joy I felt when creating the beautiful pictures for this campaign.
You’re also the face of the newest Ice Cube collection. Tell us more.
Personally, I like stacking bracelets and mixing and matching according to my mood and my look. This collection is easy to wear. It goes well with denim and a T-shirt for a casual stroll, can instantly take an evening dress to the next level, and adds light to an all-black look – as I wear it in the campaign.
Ice Cube was the first Chopard fine jewellery collection to be crafted in ethical gold. What does Chopard’s stance on sustainable luxury mean to you?
I really admire Chopard’s deep commitment to ethical gold. Sustainability is so important, and one of the many reasons I love Chopard is their shared compassion for the Earth and its many wonders.
What’s your favourite piece of jewellery from Chopard?
Definitely the Ice Cube pieces. They’re so versatile! I love the hoop earrings. They’re so fun and elegant, and I love stacking Ice Cube bracelets. I also love wearing my Happy Hearts bangle and stacking it with my other favourites.
Chopard is historically linked to joie de vivre. What are your personal tips to convey joie de vivre in your daily life?
Take pleasure in the simple things. Whether it’s enjoying your morning coffee, a walk in nature or spending time with loved ones, embrace the moments of joy throughout your day. Focus on a mindset of gratitude and celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small they are. And most of all, spread kindness. Acts of kindness, whether big or small, can create a butterfly effect of joy and contribute to a more connected world.
What’s next for you?
I have a few exciting things in the works that I can’t share just yet, but most of my time these days is spent focusing on my fragrance brand Orebella, my non-alcoholic beverage Kin Euphorics, and soaking up as much time as I can with my family, friends and horses.
