Feb 20, 2025

The iPhone 16e brings advanced features, long battery life, and privacy-focused intelligence at a lower price point

Apple has announced the iPhone 16e, a new addition to its iPhone 16 lineup. Positioned as the most affordable option in the range, the device offers a balance of performance, durability, and accessibility.

The iPhone 16e includes the A18 chip for faster processing and improved energy efficiency. It also debuts Apple’s first in-house cellular modem, the C1, which enhances connectivity and extends battery life. Users can expect up to six hours more usage compared to older models like the iPhone 11.

The phone's design features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, ceramic shield protection, and IP68 water resistance. Available in black or white matte finishes, it also supports wireless charging and USB-C connections.

Privacy-focused intelligence

Apple has integrated its Apple Intelligence system into the iPhone 16e. This feature processes many tasks on-device to protect user data. For cloud-based actions, Apple’s Private Cloud Compute ensures that data is not stored or shared unnecessarily.

New tools include a Clean Up feature for photo editing, natural language search within the Photos app, and enhanced Siri capabilities for more conversational interactions. Users can also access ChatGPT directly through Siri with built-in privacy protections.

Camera and video features

The iPhone 16e boasts a 48MP Fusion camera with integrated telephoto capabilities, allowing for high-quality zoom without compromising detail. The front-facing TrueDepth camera supports autofocus for sharper selfies.

Video enthusiasts will appreciate its ability to record in 4K Dolby Vision at 60fps and Spatial Audio support for immersive playback experiences. Wind noise reduction and advanced audio editing tools further enhance video production quality.

Safety and connectivity

The device includes satellite-based features like Emergency SOS and Roadside Assistance for use in areas without cellular coverage. Crash Detection automatically contacts emergency services during severe accidents.

Environmentally conscious design

Aligned with Apple’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, the iPhone 16e incorporates over 30 per cent recycled materials, including cobalt in its battery and aluminium in its enclosure. Its packaging is entirely fibre-based, eliminating plastic use.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 16e begin on February 21, with availability starting February 28. By offering advanced features at a lower price point, Apple aims to make its technology accessible to more users while maintaining its commitment to privacy and sustainability.
