Peridot

With a stunning interior that glows, The Henderson’s latest cocktail sanctuary features creative mixology and plant-based cuisine heavy on fermentation. Peridot’s offerings are out of the box. It is best exemplified by drinks like Durian’s Consent with its sweet funk of Musang King durian. The scent envelopes a base of Daiyame 40 percent Imo Shochu, Havana Club 3-year Rum, and Wray & Nephew Overproof Jamaican white rum.

Chef Lisandro Illa proves to be quite a culinary artist. Here, he serves elegant 3- or 4-course lunch menus that showcase his dedication to innovation and sustainability. Expect dishes such as Koji Carrot Pumpkin Ginger Soup, Asado Mushroom with Chimichurri Forest and Chorizo Tempeh, alongside other innovative plates.
If live performances are your thing, swing by from Thursday to Saturday. There will be performances by a talented group of musicians. This includes a pianist, internationally acclaimed saxophonist Veronika Semylit, and DJs for the late nights until 2 a.m.

Akira Back

Speaking of The Henderson, another relatively new concept of theirs s Akira Back, which opened in September. Celebrity chef Akira Back brings his unique brand of Japanese-Korean-American cuisine to our shores. Taste it in dishes like the AB Tuna Pizza. The Toro Tartare is served with fresh caviar and nine variations of condiments, inspired by the traditional Korean royal dish of Gujeolpan, which are consumed together with homemade brioche.

Mains to look out for here include 48-hour Wagyu Short Ribs, Back’s take on his mother’s homemade Galbi-jim prepared with sous-vide Australian Wagyu short ribs. Fans of the tasting menu experience will be glad to know there will be some on rotation.

Lala

Despite being a relatively new kid on the block, Lala has become a fast and firm French favourite in Central. Now with new set lunch and dinner menus, there’s more reason than ever to check it out.
The lunch set menu is just HK$358. The highlights are signatures such as Parsley Garlic Frog Legs, Pâté en Croûte and Beef Tartare with Miso Mustard. There is a rotating line-up of daily specials to keep it fresh and exciting for everyone.

The dinner set, priced auspiciously at HK$888 per person, is designed for sharing. So make dinner a big party affair! Start with the Citrus-marinated Hamachi and Chilled Capellini with Kombu, Truffle and Caviar. Follow this up with the signature Vol-au-vent “Lala”, now elevated with blue lobster and a yellow wine sauce. The main course is a choice between Roasted Chicken with Koshihikari Rice or Charcoal-grilled Côte de Bœuf with fries. Finally, end with a selection of house-made pastries, which we promise are heavenly.

Yume

At the spot that once housed Drop and Quality Goods Club, a new cocktail bar has taken over. With the city-pop feel of its interior lighting, Yume’s basement space fitting serves up Japanese-inspired cocktails. A highlight is the Kiss of a Geisha, a drink with bourbon that is fat washed with shiitake butter to create a rich, savoury base balanced by the bright bitterness of Campari and the herbal warmth of Amaro Montenegro. Above The Clouds is also an interesting creation. We see sake, pistachio aperitivo, matcha liqueur, and soy milk turned into a cloud-like foam using a cream whipper. It is then poured over a bed of finely shaved ice, a à la traditional Japanese kakigōri.

Pici

Tis’ the season! For hairy crabs that is. Pici’s beloved seasonal ritual of combining this prized crustacean into their pasta continues this year. This year, you’ll get dishes like the the Drowning Crab (HK$120), where a fried crab is served in savoury saffron cream. There is also the Tropical Crab Salad (HK$140).
Finally, the star is the Pici Hairy Crab pasta (HK$280) with hand rolled pasta in a hairy crab-enriched sauce. It has hints of saffron with a splash of Shaoxing wine and ginger for the perfect balance. This dish is available all day on the à la carte menu or as part of a set menu for an extra HK$98 at lunch and dinner.

Dragonfly

Tai Kwun’s Dragonfly now comes with a new cocktail collection that looks as good as the venue’s Tiffany-inspired glass work. The Odyssey (HK$180) is Dragonfly’s elegant and eye-catching tribute to the American Zombie cocktail. This layered beverage combines three distinct rums, namely white, spiced, and overproof. It balances out with the tropical sweetness and spice of Falernum, complemented by absinthe’s hint of herbal note.


Their new mocktails are just as good. The Tiffany Elixir (HK$128) is a captivating potion that consists of seedlip infused butterfly pea flower, pineapple juice, lemongrass, lavender The use of butterfly pea flower with fresh pineapple juice for a colour change effect from vibrant indigo to purple never fails to be a fun visual treat.

El Vaso de Oro

Sheung Wan-based Spanish wine bar has a new menu by their Barcelona-born chef that is inspired by the Central and Southern regions of Spain. Chef Carlos Salvador Asensio describes these regions as “the forgotten lands”, as Spanish cuisine in Hong Kong is typically represented by northern dishes. So come along to this bodega and discover these lesser known style of Spanish dining, with highlights like the Beef Tripe Stew with Chickpeas and the thinly sliced “dumpling-style” Pig’s Ear.

Ribera del Duero wines

On the subject of Spain, the Ribera del Duero wine region is launching a festive promotion in Hong Kong. From now until to 31 December, you will find many premium pours making their Hong Kong debut at Mato Coffee Wine and La Paloma. Pick up some just in time for the holidays!
