As the 2026 Formula 1 season gets underway, a new name joins the grid. Arvid Lindblad, the 18-year-old Red Bull junior, steps into the sport with Racing Bulls after a rapid rise through the junior ranks. With record-breaking performances already on his résumé and growing attention across the paddock, Lindblad arrives as one of the most intriguing young drivers to watch this year. Here are five things to know about Arvid Lindblad
He’s the only rookie on the 2026 F1 grid

After the 2025 season welcomed one of the largest rookie classes in recent years – including Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Gabriel Bortoleto, Jack Doohan, Oliver Bearman, Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson – the 2026 lineup looks far more settled. That leaves Arvid Lindblad as the only rookie on the grid this year. The British-Swedish driver joins Racing Bulls alongside Liam Lawson and arrives through the Red Bull Junior Team pipeline, a program known for fast-tracking promising young talent through the ranks.
He once told Lando Norris he’d see him in F1 in five years

One of the most entertaining stories from Lindblad’s early career dates back to 2021. While racing karts at the Adria Karting Raceway in Italy, the then-14-year-old Lindblad walked up to now-2025 world champion Lando Norris and confidently said, “Remember me – I’ll see you in five years”. The moment was captured on video and quickly went viral online. At the time, Lindblad was still competing in karting and had not yet started racing in single-seater cars. Fast forward five years, and he is now preparing for his rookie Formula 1 season, making that bold prediction look surprisingly accurate.
He reached F1 after just three years in junior formula racing

Lindblad’s climb through the racing ladder has been remarkably quick. He competed in Formula 4 in 2023, Formula 3 in 2024 and Formula 2 in 2025, moving up almost every season before securing a Formula 1 seat with Racing Bulls for 2026. When he lines up for his debut at the Australian Grand Prix on March 6, he will be 18 years and seven months old, making him the fourth-youngest driver in Formula 1 history, behind only Max Verstappen, Lance Stroll and Kimi Antonelli.
He’s the youngest Formula 2 race winner ever

Before arriving in Formula 1, Lindblad had already written his name into the record books. In April 2025, he won the Formula 2 Sprint Race in Jeddah for Campos Racing, becoming the youngest race winner in the series’ history. He was just 17 years and 243 days old at the time. The victory immediately caught attention across the paddock and further strengthened the belief that he could be one of the standout drivers of the next generation.
He brings Indian heritage back to the F1 grid

Lindblad also represents a diverse background rarely seen in Formula 1. Born in the United Kingdom to a Swedish father and an Indian-British mother, his full name – Arvid Anand Olof Lindblad – reflects that heritage. “Anand” honours his maternal grandfather from Bihar, India. When he debuts in 2026, Lindblad will become only the third driver of Indian heritage to compete in Formula 1, following Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok. His helmet design even incorporates the British, Swedish and Indian flags, highlighting the different parts of his identity.
