Hong Kong Chefs Unite for Barcelona Benefit Dinner

La Paloma plays host to this month's 'A Dinner for Barcelona' charity dinner

In the wake of last week’s tragedies in Barcelona and Cambrils, Spanish chefs are coming together to support their countrymen in Europe. In conjunction with the Spanish Chefs Association in Asia, 12 chefs from Hong Kong and the Philippines are putting on a charity dinner to celebrate the best of the Spain’s culture, spirit and cuisine. Join them on August 29 at La Paloma for “A Dinner for Barcelona”, an eight-course tapas menu. 100 per cent of the event’s profits will be donated to one of Barcelona’s charities, with more details on that to follow.

Alex Fargas, Executive Chef & Partner at FoFo by el Willy

For Alex Fargas, Executive Chef and Partner at FoFo by el Willy, the event is a chance to give back to his home country, and support his people the best way he knows how to: through food.  “When I heard that my home country had been brutally attacked, I was immensely worried about my family, friends and the people living in those areas,” Fargas says, “Through this non-profit dinner, I hope that we will be able to do our part to support…I hope to use food to unite people for this important cause.”

Due to the immediate nature of the event, the menu is not yet confirmed, but the team has given us a sample menu that promises a delicious evening, including Catalan Traditional Codfish Fritters, “Trinxat” Potato and Iberico Pork Cake with Prawns, “Callos” Pork Stew with Chickpeas, Ham and Chorizo, “Fricando” Traditional Catalan Stew with Ox Tongue and Mushrooms and, of course, Crema Catalana to finish.
