The Best 50 Bars in Asia Announced

Asia’s 50 Best Bars released their 2017 list last night. The coveted top five spots went to Singapore’s Manhattan, Speak Low in Shanghai, Tokyo’s famed High Five, 28 Hong Kong Street in Singapore, and the dynamic Indulge Experimental Bistro in Taipei, respectively.

Though Hong Kong didn’t rank in the top five, eight of our bars made the cut, making us the second most represented area on the list after Singapore, who dominated with an astonishing 13 bars.

The Quinary, famed for their Insta-worthy Earl Grey Martini, led the pack at number seven, followed by the city’s favourite speakeasy Stockton, which jumped an impressive 23 spots on the list. Lobster Bar is listed at number ten, down six spots, and rock and roll hangout The Pontiac came in at number 16, up three-spots from last year. Zuma Hong Kong rose to number 24, followed by new addition 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana at number 26. The Chinnery at the Mandarin Oriental made the list for the first time at number 42, and finally, Dr. Fern’s Gin Parlour, the whimsical Landmark newcomer with the largest collection of gins in town, is listed at number 48. 

The 50 Best lists are undoubtably controversial, with many questioning the the processes methodology and judging category. Devotees to the Hong Kong bar-scene will, of course, have their own critiques, we at #legend certainly do, but for the moment it’s time to head to your nearest Best Bar, grab a drink and toast to a job well done to all the bars that made the list this year.
