Panerai focuses on big and beautiful at this year’s SIHH, offering a wide range of Submersibles for the adventurers, divers and sailing teams.
The main focus this year has to be their proud heritage in the field of competitive sailing, and this year marked their partnership with the renowned Italian sailing team Luna Rossa with a watch dedicated to the team for the 36th edition of the America’s Cup, the Panerai Submersible Luna Rossa Challenge.
The agreement, signed by Panerai’s CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué and Patrizio Bertelli, President of Luna Rossa and CEO of the Prada Group – title sponsor of Luna Rossa together with Pirelli – provides that Panerai will be the Official Sponsor of Luna Rossa. Panerai will also create a series of watches directly inspired by the technologies and materials used in the America’s Cup, which is the oldest sports competition in the modern world, but also one of the more advanced in terms of research and innovation.
The latest Panerai Luna Rossa Challenge is of course made from their infamous Submersible range in carbotech which is a technique to put thin sheets of carbon fibres together, compress them at a controlled temperature under high pressure with a high-add polymer to bring you an even stronger and more durable material.
This 47mm diving watch not only is water resistant to a depth of 300 metres but also includes the innovative material used to make the hull of Luna Rossa’s AC75 sailing boat for the America’s Cup. To enhance this collaboration even more, Panerai has also added the material from the sails of Luna Rossa to be added onto the dial of the watch.
