Panerai: A Luminor gift of time

Panerai’s Christmas selection showcases four unique takes on the iconic Luminor and Luminor Due

Few gifts are more meaningful or treasured than an elegant luxury timepiece. And few timepieces are more iconic than Panerai’s robust Luminor and its slimmed-down version, the Luminor Due. For this Christmas, the Italian manufacturer is highlighting four versions of the famed watches – each with its own distinct styling but still retaining the aesthetic codes and characteristic features of the original. They are available for purchase at Panerai boutiques and online.

Luminor Due TuttoOro

Panerai’s first watch featuring a gold bracelet, the Luminor Due TuttoOro is also undoubtedly one of its most elegant and luxurious. The 38mm case and bracelet are forged from Panerai Goldtech, an integral material to the brand identity that incorporates copper to bring a deep, red tone to the metal and platinum to ensure its colour remains radiant and true. The bracelet takes its design cues from the Luminor’s renowned crown protection device, reflecting the profile of the mechanism in a brushed finish alongside a polished rectangular segment. With slim contours and a striking white sun-brushed sandwich dial, this timepiece can transition from the most casual occasions to formal wear and complement wearers of any gender. It is also water-resistant to three bar.

Luminor BiTempo

As its name suggests, the Luminor BiTempo can simultaneously track the time in two different time zones, near or distant, thanks to a GMT function that indicates the time in a second time zone with a hand in vivid cerulean blue to ensure visibility at a glance. The new watch comes in two distinct colour palettes on a 44mm steel case, including a lively blue sun-brushed dial with an alligator strap in the same rich hue (PAM01361). The date window at three o’clock is larger than those that preceded it, and its bevelled aperture is the first instance of a feature that will appear in future models. Water-resistant to 30 bar, the Luminor BiTempo features a brushed steel buckle and additional rubber strap.

Luminor Due Luna GoldTech

It should come as no surprise that the moon phase is the first complication to feature in the Luminor Due line, it being among the most poetic and eye-catching complications. The Luminor Due Luna comes in four variations, each with the moon phase situated at 3 o’clock and exhibiting a rotating disc with a 24-carat moon against a starry midnight blue sky. The Luminor Due Luna GoldTech (PAM01181) features a mother-of-pearl dial and case made from Panerai Goldtech as well as an open case-back that reveals the workings of the automatic 3 days power reserve calibre P900/MP within. Applied numerals and indices with white Super-LumiNova appear on the dial, while a polished alligator strap provides a lustrous finishing touch.

As part of its year-long tribute to the legendary Luminor, Panerai has transformed the spirit of the model with the introduction of a totally redesigned metal bracelet to accompany the radically contemporary form of the new Luminor – 44 mm (PAM01316). Composed of links that mirror the silhouette of the crown-protecting bridge, the new, lighter steel bracelet requires fewer screws along the sides while incorporating a large number of carefully considered components to elevate the standard of ergonomics and fit. The dial, meanwhile, features a sandwich structure introduced by Panerai at the end of the 1930s for models intended for divers in the Royal Navy. It comes in a deep blue colour with satiné soleil decoration and indices in white Super-LumiNova with green luminescence.
