“…Paris is preparing to unveil one of the most significant exhibitions of the celebrated German contemporary photographer Wolfgang Tillmans. Occupying more than 6,000 square metres on the second floor of the building, within the Bibliothèque publique d’information, this exhibition takes over a space long regarded as a bridge between knowledge and architecture. It will also be the final exhibition staged in this location before its transformation.

Spanning over four decades of Tillmans’ practice, the curation is meticulously crafted to resonate with the venue’s scale and rhythm, unfolding into a powerful and continuous narrative. The works on view range from portraits, still lifes, and architectural photography to documentary and abstract explorations, each weaving seamlessly into the next. Far beyond framed prints on walls, the presentation expands into installations on tables, objects, moving images, soundscapes, and even live performances. The result is an immersive experience that layers visual, spatial, and sensory dimensions, offering visitors a chance to engage with art as a living environment.

Central to Tillmans’ vision is a profound reflection on the fragility and beauty of the world, tied to ideals of humanism and a candid confrontation with the complexities of contemporary life. Each work is intentionally placed to spark connections, opening contemplative spaces where viewers may reflect on freedom and vulnerability within today’s shifting realities.
