"...The Peninsula Bangkok, in collaboration with River City Bangkok, proudly presents New Beginnings: The Spirit of Songkran, an art exhibition featuring works by 17 contemporary Thai artists. Each artist uniquely interprets the concept of ‘new beginnings’ through their distinctive artistic perspectives, employing signature techniques that make each creation a masterpiece in its own right. The exhibition will be open to the public from 1st April to 30th June 2025 on the 2nd floor of The Peninsula Bangkok..."
Following the success of Sanctuary Within, a 2024 Art in Resonance programme curated by Jarupatcha Achavasmit, New Beginnings marks the first art exhibition of the year, reinforcing The Peninsula Bangkok’s commitment to supporting Thai artists with innovative visions while honouring Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.
In celebration of Songkran, the Thai New Year, a festival symbolising renewal and the embrace of positivity, this exhibition showcases the creative journeys of 17 artists. Through a diverse range of artistic techniques, playing with textures, colours, and materials, their works not only reflect past and present moments but also introduce fresh perspectives on transformation and change.
New Beginnings: The Spirit of Songkran is open to the public free of charge. To further enrich the artistic experience during Songkran, The Peninsula Bangkok proudly presents an exclusive art workshop led by Supoj Kunanukun, one of the participating artists renowned for his expertise in creating pigments from natural materials. Participants will have the rare opportunity to explore Supoj’s unique artistic process and engage in hands-on art creation using his distinctive materials.
Supoj Kunanukun is widely recognised for his paintings, which utilise earth pigments extracted through meticulous processes of grinding, filtering, and sifting before being blended with acacia gum. His technique also incorporates natural minerals to produce unique colour shades. This special workshop invites participants to experience the creation of art through these exclusive materials while reflecting on the concept of new beginnings through artistic expression.
The workshops will be held from 13th to 15th April 2025, with two sessions daily: 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM, at Thiptara Restaurant’s mezzanine level at The Peninsula Bangkok. Spaces are limited, and interested participants can register via the hotel’s Concierge.
