Luar

In 2022, the CFDA honoured Raul Lopez, a Dominican designer, with the Accessory Designer of the Year Award for his 'Ana Bag' design for Luar. This bag features a minimalistic yet standout design with an oversized round handle that has become a must-have item for fashion enthusiasts. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, he decided to take a well-deserved two-year hiatus in search of fresh inspiration. Upon his return, he unveiled the remarkable Luar Spring 2022 collection, which quickly captured the spotlight and garnered widespread acclaim. His designs effortlessly blend the cutting-edge structure of garments with the edgy street style of New York.

Additionally, the collection includes a range of gender-neutral pieces. Male models confidently wear jackets paired with skirts and high heels, while the female showcased with wide-shouldered blazers with neck ties. Plus, he works closely with models who challenge traditional gender norms, delivering the inclusivity of his designs. Raul frequently finds inspiration in the fashion trends of the Mid Century era, 80s, and 90s. He skillfully incorporates sporty hoodie silhouettes and transforms tracksuits into versatile outfits that transcend gender boundaries. Raul expressed that his designs not only mirror his personal identity but also the collective spirit of the community he resides in and collaborates with. The design collection strives to authentically cater to individuals of all genders.

Arturo Obegero

Arturo Obegero, a Spanish designer, may not be familiar to the majority, but many have seen his work through Harry Styles music videos, in which Harry wore a gorgeous red jumpsuit. He grew up in the town of Tapia de Cassa in Spain, where his fascination with the beauty of nature, Spanish folklore, and the intensity of bullfighting co-existed. He appreciated the contradictory nature of dressing up in luxurious costumes for a violent sport like bullfighting, viewing it as a manifestation of beauty in conflict. Arturo interpreted this beauty, which he found inspiring, into the unique silhouettes that are both genderless and accessible to all.

His designs stand out because of his well-curated choice of materials, such as high-quality lace fabrics, which he uses to create sexy and provocative looks while sparking curiosity at the same time. He has reimagined the matador's distinct attire, which consists of high-waisted trousers resembling corsets, into intriguing and captivating pieces. Arturo has further differentiated himself by designing visually striking corset tops with oversized draped velvet fabric, creating bold statement pieces for wearers of all backgrounds and preferences. Not only does his design focus on creating gender-neutral items, but he also strives to convey his own perspective on gender diversity and identity through unique advertising campaigns.
