The Macallan unveils A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera to celebrate its bicentennial

“…The Macallan, the renowned single malt Scotch whisky brand, concludes its bicentennial celebrations with the launch of an exceptional limited-edition masterpiece, A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera. A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera has been matured in meticulously seasoned sherry oak casks, crafted to the exacting standards of the brand. These casks include both European and American oak, with an additional layer of complexity introduced by rare European oak casks seasoned with Pedro Ximenez sherry. Hand-selected by Whisky Maker Steven Bremner, these casks impart unparalleled complexity, offering an unexpected sweetness and a diverse array of flavours. Notes of baked goods, dried grapes, and star anise evoke inspiration from Spanish traditions, such as eating 12 grapes at New Year for luck and enjoying Pestiños—a local delicacy of fried dough infused with sugar and star anise or drizzled with honey.

The Macallan collaborated with Jerez-born artist María Melero to design the packaging, which encapsulates the festive essence of her hometown. The exterior features a striking deep red sky and a brilliant sunset over sherry vineyards, accented with roses that naturally protect the vines. Inside, traditional azulejos—ceramic tiles from Jerez—adorn the packaging, enriched with celebratory symbols, including oak casks, stills, oranges, and vine leaves. Grapes from Jerez vineyards are beautifully illustrated throughout, adding meaningful storytelling to the unboxing experience and creating a truly memorable moment.

To mark this launch, The Macallan hosted an exclusive fine dining experience at Restaurant POTONG. Renowned Chef Pichaya “Pam” Utharntharm curated a Thai-Chinese culinary journey inspired by the concept of “Time.” The meticulously crafted menu included the following highlights:

  • Mission: Black chicken braised in Chinese herbs served in a clear broth.
  • Detail and Memories: Signature noodles paired with pork tongue and caviar.
  • Historical Stories: Crab roe and blue crab served with soft brioche.
  • Heart and Soul: Nakhon Si Thammarat prawns presented with a bespoke Pad Thai.
  • Forgotten: Goby fish with tamarind butter sauce, complemented by Thai acacia leaves.
  • Bold: A 14-day-aged duck served alongside a contemporary rendition of nam prik num.
  • Desserts included Humble, fresh guava sorbet; Happiness, a multi-layered coconut dessert paired with coconut ice cream; and Heritage, a fusion of pandan custard, Thai tea brittle, and a tamarind medley.

A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera will be available from 4th December at leading supermarkets, including Gourmet Market and TOPS Food Hall, priced at 7,790 THB. Additionally, customers can indulge in signature dishes at Restaurant POTONG paired with The Macallan A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera throughout December, offering a unique culinary experience that embodies the festive spirit.
