Mary Jane, the character in the comic wore shoes resembling schoolgirl footwear, featuring a curved toe and a single strap that elegantly hugged the foot. This design gained prominence due to the comic's popularity, becoming a household item in its early days known as "Bar Shoes," referring to the strap. Later, in the early 20th century, they were named "Mary Janes" after the female character from Buster Brown, evolving into a stylish fashion icon adaptable to various outfits.
