Having been a significant symbol of Bangkok for over five decades, the Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel, the city's first five-star luxury hotel, has once again decided to revamp its design. With the goal of becoming one of Bangkok’s key landmarks, this transformation is set to attract both locals and tourists from around the world.

For the launch event held on July 15, this luxurious hotel hosted an afternoon tea at Baan Dusit Thani. The event featured two key executives: Ms. Suphajee Suthumpun, Group CEO of Dusit International, and Ms. Natapa Sriyuksiri, Managing Director of Dusit Estate and Group Creative Strategy at Dusit International. They were joined by Mr. Somkiat Lo-Chindapong, Deputy Managing Director of Architects 49 Limited (A49). Together, they shared captivating stories of the fifty-year journey of operating and managing this iconic Bangkok hotel.

The upcoming transformation of the Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel will be guided by the key concept of "An Icon Reimagined." This approach reflects the changes the hotel has undergone over the past 50 years, aiming to redesign the Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel to its former glory, particularly within the context of modern society. Achieving this vision requires a thoughtful consideration of various factors. The meticulous redesign of this legendary hotel is akin to crafting a masterpiece, with designers and those behind the scenes paying careful attention to every detail. Their efforts ensure that the hotel remains an ideal space that consistently impresses visitors.

The new Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel will feature a magnificent 39-floor gold finish, exuding unparalleled luxury. It will offer over 257 rooms, from deluxe rooms to suites, each embodying a seamless blend of Thai elegance and modern international aesthetics. The rooms will start at a spacious 50 square meters, showcasing intricate interior designs crafted by the world-renowned André Fu Studio and Thailand's leading interior design firm, P49DEESIGN AND ASSOCIATES. The latter will also oversee the exclusive Heritage Floor, ensuring every detail is meticulously attended to.

Ms Natapa Sriyuksiri said that the main challenge in designing the new Dusit Thani Bangkok was capturing the essence of the original hotel’s warmth and character while ensuring a fresh, modern aesthetic. “The original Dusit Thani Bangkok had a soul all of its own, and our goal was to translate that spirit into a contemporary space equipped for the future,” said Ms Sriyuksiri. ‘We started by reinterpreting the original hotel’s unique design elements through a modern lens. This involved studying the hotel’s distinctive interiors and architecture to identify patterns we could modernise or reference in new creations.’

Finally, Mr Somkiat Lo-Chindapong, who played a key role in the design and conceptualisation, revealed that the new modern building enhances the connection between people and the city. This aligns with the lifestyle of today’s society. For instance, the project's rooftop park will feature a 7-rai public garden, a nine-tier waterfall, and tropical gardens, along with various Thai artworks. These elements increase green space in Bangkok and position the new Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel as an important hub for urban dwellers to connect more closely with nature.
