"...Following the remarkable journey of Culinary Compass Vol. 1, where Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park invited #Legend_th to embark on an unforgettable voyage aboard the elegant Sirimahannop, the adventure continues. This time, our culinary compass points us towards the enchanting Asiatique Ancient Tea House, a destination not far from our initial point of indulgence yet rich with history and sensory delights..."
Asiatique Ancient Tea House stands apart not only for its captivating ambience but also for the remarkable history that infuses its very walls. Nestled within a 111-year-old heritage house, originally constructed in 1912, this site was once part of the East Asiatic Company’s warehouse complex—the first commercial port in Thailand. Now beautifully restored and transformed into a sophisticated tea house, this historic landmark invites locals and travellers alike to savour exquisite Chinese dim sum paired with inventive, tea-inspired cocktails in a setting steeped in nostalgia and elegance.
The century-old building has been meticulously refurbished, embracing a design philosophy that captures the essence of “heavenly fragrance” in a style that merges classic Chinese elements with modern aesthetics. From intricately adorned walls and curated ceramic collections to art displays, traditional horseshoe arches, and sweeping balconies, every detail enhances the venue’s allure and charm.
In terms of gastronomy, every dish at Asiatique Ancient Tea House is crafted with the utmost precision, courtesy of the acclaimed Pagoda Chinese Restaurant at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park. Drawing inspiration from the tale of Emperor Shen Nong, who, some 4,000 years ago, is said to have discovered tea, the culinary team has created a menu that resonates with history and sophistication.
Upon crossing the threshold, guests are greeted by a warm, colonial-inspired setting, effortlessly inviting them to savour an exclusive set menu, featuring delicacies such as shrimp Har Gow, Fun Guo with corn and truffle, as well as pork, shrimp, and shiitake mushroom dumplings. These refined bites are meticulously crafted to deliver an unparalleled taste experience.
Beyond the delightful array of dim sum, Asiatique Ancient Tea House is truly a sanctuary for tea connoisseurs. The tea menu is an assembly of premium selections from around the globe, including Silk Dark Tea and Thida Green Tea sourced from organic farms in Chiang Dao, Thailand; Bai Mu Dan White Tea from China; Sencha Green Tea from Japan; Darjeeling First Flush Dark Tea from India; and Rooibos Tisane from South Africa. Each tea is thoughtfully paired with delectable dim sum, tea salads, crispy pork, barbecue pork ribs with Chinese peppercorns, hoisin sauce, and more, crafting a sensory experience that is both elegant and profound.
Embodying its heritage as a tea house, Asiatique Ancient Tea House offers visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the artistry and historical significance of tea. The establishment is divided into three distinct zones: Hint of Heaven, a greenhouse enveloped in verdant foliage; the 1890s Blend Gallery, an exquisite exhibition space dedicated to premium tea selections; and The Blooming, situated on the second floor, symbolising the flourishing era of tea culture.
But the most alluring aspect of Asiatique Ancient Tea House is its dual identity. During the day, it serves as a refined venue for premium dim sum and teas, while by night, it transforms into an ideal space for evening indulgence. With a selection of whimsical mocktails, fine whiskies, tea-infused gins, and three signature cocktails inspired by green, white, and brown teas from China, this establishment is fully prepared to enchant visitors seeking an experience that is as unique as it is sophisticated.
