"...Hong Kong is transforming itself into a vast open-air gallery, welcoming global travellers who are passionate about art and culture. This March, the city is set to host the remarkable “Super March,” a month-long celebration that brings together world-class art events in one spectacular destination..."
Art Basel Hong Kong is undoubtedly the highlight of the month, taking place from 28th to 30th March 2025 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. As the only Art Basel event in Asia this year, it is an unmissable occasion featuring over 240 leading galleries from 42 countries worldwide. For those following Thai contemporary art on the global stage, The Golden Snail Series by Chulayarnnon Siriphol, a Thai artist of international acclaim, is among the noteworthy pieces that await discovery.
The excitement does not end there. Art Central, celebrating its 10th anniversary, will take place from 26th to 30th March 2025 at Central Harbourfront, offering visitors an immersive art experience against the breathtaking backdrop of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline, a seamless fusion of contemporary art and urban architecture.
Adding to the cultural vibrancy of March is the exhibition “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Picasso for Asia—A Conversation”, hosted at M+ from 15th March to 13th July 2025. This extraordinary collection features over 60 masterpieces by Pablo Picasso from the Musée national Picasso-Paris, which holds the largest Picasso collection in the world. In a rare and compelling dialogue, these works will be exhibited alongside more than 80 pieces by Asian artists, highlighting the cross-cultural artistic exchange.
Another standout installation at M+ is “Lee Mingwei: Guernica in Sand”, which reimagines Picasso’s Guernica in an unprecedented format, crafted entirely from sand. Running from 8th March to 13th July 2025, this thought-provoking artwork offers a novel perspective on one of the most powerful anti-war paintings in history.
For those with a deep appreciation for Chinese heritage, the Hong Kong Palace Museum presents “A Movable Feast: The Culture of Food and Drink in China,” on display from 19th March to 18th June 2025. This exhibition takes visitors on a journey through over 5,000 years of Chinese culinary traditions, offering an insightful exploration of the artistry and philosophy behind Chinese gastronomy.
Another fascinating exhibition is “The Forbidden City and The Palace of Versailles: China-France Cultural Encounters in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries,” running until 4th May 2025. Featuring over 150 precious artefacts, this exhibition delves into the historical exchanges between the Qing Dynasty and the French court, showcasing the opulent treasures and artistic influences that shaped both empires.
For enthusiasts of contemporary pop culture, ComplexCon is an event not to be missed. Making its Asian debut in Hong Kong, this is the only edition held outside the United States. This year’s standout attractions include a performance by the globally renowned K-pop sensation NJZ (formerly NewJeans) and a special appearance by Metro Boomin, the celebrated hip-hop and trap producer from the US.
Meanwhile, lovers of street art will find their haven at the HKwalls Street Art Festival, taking place from 22nd to 30th March 2025. Marking its 10th edition, this festival will bring together some of the most talented graffiti and mural artists, turning the city into a dynamic canvas of creative expression—bigger and more exciting than ever before.
For serious art collectors, March in Hong Kong is a golden opportunity, as leading galleries and major auction houses. Including Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Phillips, and Bonhams, will unveil exclusive exhibitions and host Spring Sales, offering a chance to acquire exceptional artworks at remarkable value.
