"...132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE invites all to experience the exclusive "Landscape of Structures" exhibition, taking place at Open Space, Siam Discovery, from 12th to 31st March 2025. This showcase encapsulates the brand’s essence, seamlessly intertwining art, innovation, and craftsmanship through avant-garde fashion design..."
At the heart of the exhibition is the STANDARD series, a defining feature of 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE, which reimagines the traditional art of origami into the realm of garment construction. The series explores ten fundamental folding structures, transforming a single piece of fabric into complex three-dimensional forms when unfolded, and reverting to a refined two-dimensional geometric shape when folded back. This interplay of structure and form embodies the brand’s profound design philosophy and its ambition to transcend conventional fashion boundaries.
A striking centrepiece of the exhibition is a towering pillar draped in recycled polyester fabric, an emblematic material in the brand’s creations. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with actual pieces from the STANDARD series and view a captivating video that illustrates the meticulous transformation of flat textiles into dynamic, wearable structures.
Curated by Ryuji Nakamura, a distinguished Japanese architect, the exhibition space is designed to reflect the brand’s core philosophy. He elaborates, "The garments in the STANDARD series are inspired by origami, redefining a single folded piece of fabric from a one-dimensional plane into a three-dimensional form that can be worn. They are living works of art that challenge the conventional boundaries of fashion."
"For this exhibition, I have embraced simplicity to highlight the intricate nature of the garment structures. I specifically selected recycled polyester, the same material used in the STANDARD series, to ensure visitors gain an authentic insight into the innovative essence of 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE."
