Tom Ford: Calling all the Boys and Girls

Tom Ford's Boys & Girls collection proves that beauty knows no gender

The fashion industry isn’t the only one breaking down gender barriers. The beauty world is leading the charge against gender norms, and Tom Ford is at the very front.

“I love seeing a woman in a man’s suit. Why not have a lipstick named after a man?” he said about his original Lips and Boys collection, which debuted to international hysteria back in 2014. Each of the shades was named after a man Ford admired, like Drake, who was immortalised in a rich, deep plum. It sold out in minutes.

Tom Ford Boys & Girls lipstick collection launches this September

Obviously there’s no such thing as enough boys, so Ford reinvented the collection, with six new masculine shades, and it’s available this week alongside the premiere of 50 more feminine shades named after inspirational women. The result is Tom Ford Boys & Girls, a new collection of 100 different shades in a number of textures and finishes including cream, matte, metallic and sheer, so there’s something to suit every moment, every feeling, every person, every gender.

It’s all about individuality, sensuality and obviously fun with this collection, which celebrates the trend of men wearing lipstick, and invites girls to get in on the fun too.

The new collection celebrates the latest trend of men embracing makeup

Using rare and precious ingredients like soja seed extract, Brazilian murmur butter and chamomile flower oil, the new lip formula creates an ultra-creamy texture that glides on effortlessly. Use the colours as they are— each specially-treated pigment brings just the right balance of opacity and luminosity— or layer them to create different hues and textures that match your own unique style.

Available in a clutch-sized version of the original (perfect for men’s pockets), the Boys collection is presented in its iconic mahogany casing. There are 24 rich cream finishes with names like Magnus, Federico, Warren and Alain; 16 sleek metallic finishes, including Hiro, Tony, Roberto and Jake, as well as 10 matte finishes found in Dylan, Cristiano, Anderson and Nicholas. Mix and match to find your perfect shade, we love the sparkly combination of Christopher x Elliot for nights out, and the bold blend of Connor x Roberto for dressing up any outfit.

Men can feel fabulous with these sensual, creamy shades

The feminine Girls line is out in a beautifully elegant ivory lip case, and is available in two ultra-moisturising finishes, including 25 sheer formulas in Lily, Isamaya and Romy, and 25 glossy, full-coverage formulas like Naomi, Isla and Violet.

Tom Ford is once again showing the world that fashion, and beauty, are never bound by gender. Obviously we love the equality that this line represents, but at the end of the day a lipstick has to look good and apply well, and boy (or girl!) do these deliver! So boys and girls, whether you rock each shade individually or layer them together, make sure you wear your lipsticks loud and proud, and face the world as the best and most beautiful version of you.Obviously we love the equality that this line represents, but at the end of the day a lipstick has to look good and apply well, and boy (or girl!) do these deliver!
