Gucci takes to UNESCO site Alyscamps for 2019 Cruise fashion show

Gucci's Creative Director Alessandro Michele

Gucci is taking its fashion show to another historical and culturally-significant location. From the DIA-Art Foundation in New York to the Cloisters at Westminster Abbey in London and the Palatina Gallery in Florence’s Palazzo Pitti, next year’s Cruise show will take place at a UNESCO World Heritage site. Alyscamps is known for having the most renowned Roman necropoleis, and they will serve as a backdrop for Alessandro Michele’s latest, happening 30 May 2018.

Alyscamps is located in Arles, the largest municipality in France (in terms of surface) and is located on the Mediterranean coast between Marseille and Montpellier. Its beautiful location is set against the landscape of Camargue, offering expansive, natural and beautiful views. With a history spanning over 2,500 years, the space has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1981. It has inspired a multitude of artists, from Van Gogh to Picasso. Fashion designers such as Christian Lacroix and  Louis Féraud actually have Arlesian roots too. The city itself is under revitalisation, with works by renowned architects Frank Gehry and Annabelle Selldorf.

This will be the first time an event like this will be hosted at Alyscamps, so stay tuned for coverage when Cruise season comes.
