In a refreshing twist on the traditional auction house experience, Sotheby’s is set to unveil its new Maison in the heart of Hong Kong this Saturday
Forget stuffy galleries and exclusive showrooms – this space is designed with everyone in mind. Located in the bustling Landmark Chater, the two-story, 24,000-square-foot venue aims to be a cultural playground where art novices and seasoned collectors alike can explore, learn, and even shop.
“We want to create a space where anyone can engage with extraordinary objects and experiences,” says Nathan Drahi, managing director of Sotheby’s Asia. “It’s about making art accessible and exciting for all.”
The ground floor is where things get really interesting. Designed to feel like stepping into another world, it features dramatic spaces inspired by natural rock formations. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in museum-quality exhibitions without the usual barriers.

“We’re breaking down the intimidation factor,” explains Nicolas Chow, chairman of Sotheby’s Asia. “Whether you’re a curious first-timer or a dedicated collector, we want you to feel welcome and inspired.”
The Maison’s opening will be celebrated with eye-catching exhibitions, including monumental Buddhist sculptures and a shredded Banksy artwork. And for those who work up an appetite while exploring, a dining experience is in the works.
