An Exhibition on Game Changers who Reinvented the 20th Century Silhouette

The stunning show at Antwerp’s MoMu entitled Game Changers – Reinventing the 20th century silhouette examines the groundbreaking work of Spanish fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga (1895-1972), whose innovations in the middle of the 20th century created a radically new silhouette, in which the body gained freedom of movement, and architectural volumes created a space around the body. Along with the pioneers of haute couture in the 1920s and 1930s and the designers of the 1980s and 1990s, Balenciaga offered an alternative to the constrictive hourglass silhouette that prevailed. The exhibition brings together 100 couture and ready-to-wear silhouettes by Balenciaga, Paul Poiret, Madeleine Vionnet, Coco Chanel, Issey Miyake, Ann Demeulemeester, Comme des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto and Maison Martin Margiela. This is fashion at its best. The exhibition at the ModeMuseum Provincie Antwerpen in Antwerp runs until August 14. momu.be
