Artist David Hockney’s Return to Portraiture

Barry Humphries, as painted by David Hockney

David Hockney was an early adopter of the iPad and the Brushes app, using it to paint electronically his beloved Yorkshire, in England. Hockney subsequently returned to Los Angeles and became engrossed in portraiture, inviting friends, relatives and people that put on exhibitions and run art galleries to sit.

Each portrait is the same size, depicting the subject in the same chair against the same vivid blue background. Each of the portraits are on show until October 2 in an exhibition at London’s Royal Academy of Arts called 82 Portraits and 1 Still Life. royalacademy.org.uk
