Yves Saint Laurent once said: “I wish to pay tribute to those who have influenced me, who have guided my actions and who have been my role models; and first and foremost to Christian Dior, who was my master and the first to reveal to me the secrets and mysteries of haute couture.”

To mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the House of Dior, publisher Assouline is releasing a series of books about the seven designers that have steered the house. The first book, Dior by Christian Dior, was published last year. The second, Dior by Yves Saint Laurent 1958-1960, about the founder’s successor, has just been released.

The book’s author is journalist Laurence Benaïm, an authority on the couturier. Benaïm has written several books including a Saint Laurent biography. Her latest opus examines Saint Laurent’s spell working for Dior and the six collections he designed for the house.

Contemporary documents and photographs and modern images by Laziz Hamani illustrate what inspired and influenced Dior designs between 1958 and 1960. The book is essential reading for aficionados of fashion everywhere. Dior by Yves Saint Laurent 1958-1960 is available at Assouline bookshops around the world and from assouline.com
