The Chanel Art book documents a unique moment in fashion – and art – history when Karl Lagerfeld turned the Grand Palais in Paris into a vast art gallery, filled with specially created Chanel artworks. Lagerfeld envisaged a collection of paintings, sculptures and installations, many of which are ironic interpretations of Chanel icons for his 2014 prêt-à-porter fashion show. They include a cubist take on two-tone shoes, jostling for space alongside a robot in the shape of a No 5 perfume bottle. And as this quirky tome shows, the art similarly shaped Lagerfeld’s collection.
