The Ferrari Challenge season's final leg at the Singapore Grand Prix
Oct 04, 2019
Roaring engines, the smell of gasoline and the cheering of the crowds – that’s the Singapore Grand Prix weekend in a nutshell. Of course, the main event of the weekend was the Formula 1; however, there were some other prancing horses racing around as well. The sixth and final round of the Ferrari Challenge Asia-Pacific took place on Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Philippe Prette, who races for Blackbird Concessionaires (Hong Kong’s Ferrari dealer) was one of the weekend’s victors. He completed two clean sweeps of two pole positions and took home two race wins, adding to his already impressive racing history.
The Singapore Grand Prix unites racing drivers from all around the world to compete head to head in a no-frills race around the beautiful city. Somewhat reminiscent of racing games like Midnight Club, the Formula 1 races took place at night in central Singapore.
I’ve been to two Ferrari Race Days at the Shanghai International Circuit and the whole event is a sensory overload. After the day is over, your ears don’t work properly for a few days, your clothes smell of petrol and your phone is out of memory from all the videos you took. For me, it’s one of the best ways to experience true racing. Formula 1 has been highly commercialised over the years, but the Ferrari Challenge still bears the racing DNA in a more immersive experience for the audience and the drivers.
Given that this is the final race of the season, the drivers will now head to the Mugello Circuit, Ferrari’s test track, to race and meet other Challenge drivers from North America and Europe.
