While it’s often described as the most important meal of the day, not all Hong Kong breakfasts are created equal – and there are some days when a simple slice of toast or pot of yoghurt just doesn’t cut it.
If you’re looking for something a little more leisurely than a quick grab n’ go option, we’ve rounded up six of our favourite breakfast spots in Hong Kong for a totally relaxed and downright delicious brekkie… now all you need to do is just get up early enough to enjoy it.
Forget lacklustre-looking Hong Kong breakfast buffets – SOMM delivers a luxury hotel breakfast with proper panache.
Their morning menu features a sumptuous range of both savoury and sweet items, sprinkled with neo-European and Japanese influences. Expect stylish takes on breakfast classics, such as banana pancakes with toasted pecan nuts, dark Okinawa sugar syrup and yuzu; cheese and egg omelette katsu sandos with takoyaki sauce, nori and katsuobushi; and Belgian waffles with Dingley Dell sausages, hickory smoked bacon and HP sauce.

This hole-in-a-wall Soho eatery might look small from the outside – but their generously-sized breakfast plates come fully loaded with giant flavours.
Armed with a 50-year-old sourdough starter, founder-chef of Baked, Zahir Mohamed, comes from six generations of expert bakers – so what he doesn’t know about dough simply isn’t worth knowing. Breakfast favourites here include fresh-out-the-oven sourdough cinnamon buns; the “Oh My God” of sautéed portobello mushrooms, mozzarella, black truffle pâté and poached egg heaped onto sourdough bread; and the “Beulah” hand-rolled brekkie wrap featuring scrambled eggs, avocado, parmesan, aioli and a chilli balsamic reduction.

14 South Lane
This light, airy spot on… you guessed it… 14 South Lane has quickly become a hit with Hong Kong’s west-side breakfast crowd thanks to their laidback vibe and photogenic dishes – and if you don’t fancy waiting in-line in-person, they even have an online queueing system accessible via their Instagram.
Their feel-good menu is primarily vegetarian and plant-based, with many ingredients sourced from local farms, whilst all their drinks are dairy-free too. Avo toast fans will lap up their avocado, dukkah and chilli fried eggs on sourdough, while their sweet potato pancakes with candied banana and homemade raspberry peanut butter are ideal for those who like a sweet start to the day – their baked-to-order broccoli rocket cheese scones go down a treat with a soy milk latte too.

What better way to start the day than with a steaming hot brew and homemade breakfast from one of Hong Kong’s loveliest cafés?
Specialist tea spot Teakha’s all-day brunch menu is rich on homespun charm; changing regularly with the seasons, its current delights include Earl Grey lemon pancakes, huevos rancheros toast, and fig and pistachio granola. Even better, any drinks ordered with food before noon receive a 50% discount… the perfect excuse to kick back and relax with a comforting cup of masala chai.

While it feels like there are queues out the door whatever time you visit award-winning pastry chef Gregoire Michaud’s bakery-café Bakehouse, the incredible breakfast offerings here are definitely worth the wait.
Take your pick from an egg-cellent array of egg dishes, including avocado benedict on sourdough or spicy tomato and goat’s cheese shakshuka, or up the indulgence with drool-worthy plates like their brioche French toast with homemade jam, or ma la chicken and sourdough waffles… and don’t forget to grab some takeaway flaky croissants and sourdough egg tarts for the road too.

Start your weekend early and head up to Rajasthan Rifles at The Peak for a Hong Kong breakfast with an Anglo-Indian twist.
Get your tastebuds tingling with hearty dishes from their dedicated Hong Kong breakfast menu – perfect for those who fancy starting their day with a hit of spice. Signatures include the “Bhurjee”, a three-egg masala scramble served on milk buns with masala-roasted tomatoes, and “Rifles Rolls”, tandoor-baked naan wraps filled with spicy cheese, tomato chutney and your choice of either bacon, sausages or fried eggs… or if you’re feeling particularly famished, a combination of all three.
