In our latest edition of Sappy Love Stories, where we shamelessly get all the sweet and syrupy details of our favourite couples, we check in with fashion stylist Declan Chan and his boyfriend of nearly a decade, Adam Bires.

Declan, who calls himself a true ‘pro-fashion-al’, shares how he and Adam first met, the sweetest things they do for each other and why their relationship is unapologetic.

How did you first meet?

We met at dinner with friends at a restaurant in LKF previously called Socialito.

How long have you known each other?

It has almost been a decade – we’re in our ninth year.

Where was your first date?

We met at an Okinawan restaurant called Rakuen. We still go there from time to time!

What do you love most about one another?

Adam looks like a Frenchie – that’s his best asset.

What’s the sweetest thing you guys have done for each other?

It’s hard to pin down the answer for this. For me, it was when he packed all the things I needed when I was quarantining in a hotel last November. He bought me all my favourite snacks from Citysuper!

What are your pet names for each other?

It’s simple – just ‘Babe’.

Who is the sappier one in the relationship?

Guilty as charged, me (Declan).

Who said ‘I love you’ first?

We can’t remember, lol.

Who apologises first? 

Apology is not a tradition in our relationship. We are very unapologetic.

Who gets the last chip in the bag? 

Adam.

Do you believe in matching couple’s outfits?

Only for the ‘gram.

If yes, what would yours be?

The brand-du-jour for us is Celine.

Are you guys into Valentine’s Day?

We have a tradition of having Valentine’s Day dinner with close friends and taking in our single friends to keep them company.

How will you be celebrating this year?

We will have Valentine’s Day lunch and in the evening, I will be departing Hong Kong.
