Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the Golden Arches or prefer In-N-Out, most people can usually all agree on one thing: McDonald’s French fries are good – addictively good. Numerous studies and investigations have found that it’s thanks to, not the seasoning, but the cooking oil – which is seasoned with ‘natural beef flavour’.

As if we needed another excuse to indulge in a portion or two of McDonald’s iconic deep-fried potatoes – a recent study, published in the journal Biomaterials by Yokohama National University in Japan, have found that a chemical used to cook McD’s famous fries, dimethylpolysiloxane, encourages hair growth and could cure hair loss.

The chemical is put into the oil before frying in order to prevent the oil from splattering – resulting in the perfectly crunchy and crisp fries we’re so fond of.

The study has used the chemical to regrow hair on mice and “hope that this technique will improve human hair regenerative therapy to treat hair loss such as androgenic alopecia [male pattern baldness].”

While further research is needed before they can determine if this can be used on humans, it gives you something to say when someone questions you on your next guilty McDonalds binge. Not that you need a study to back you up – fries over exercise any day right?
