Head to London This May for the World’s Largest Photography Fair

Thomas Hoepker

Photo London, a major international photography fair, returns to London this month with a programme of exhibitions. More than 80 of the world’s leading galleries will show photographs for sale at Somerset House, with work by some of the most important photographers on display beside that of new and emerging talent. The photography spans genres including fine art, fashion documentary and advertising. Among the highlights are rare original prints by the 19th century pioneer William Henry Fox Talbot, Yousuf Karsh’s celebrated portrait of Winston Churchill and Erwin Blumenfeld’s Vogue cover image, and more recent work by Patrick Demarchelier. Three big exhibitions at Somerset House include a large survey of the work of photojournalist Don McCullin, who is this year’s master of photography; an exhibition of new work by Russian photographer Sergey Chilikov; and a show of work by Craigie Horsfield, once a nominee for the Turner Prize. Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Phillips will hold major sales of photography during Photo London week. The events take place around the city from May 19 to 22. photolondon.org
