All you need when you step into a Japanese izakaya really are two things: cold sake and hot, savoury meat skewers. Gonpachi, located in the heart of Causeway Bay, does that and more: this spring, the gourmet izakaya restaurant will be presenting a new, extensive menu dedicated to Iwate Platinum Pork and Wagyu Beef.
The new menu places the spotlight on the two premium ingredients, highly popular for their tender texture and well-balanced marbling. Iwate platinum pork is raised in a local farm on the Õu Mountains, where pigs exclusively drink spring water purified by minerals from Kamaishi. The Wagyu beef are from local cattle raised in Kagoshima, Miyazaki and Saga, where temperate climate and consistent diet on only the best feed gives the meat exquisite marbling and richness.
Diners will be spoiled for choice with seven new platinum pork dishes, seven Wagyu beef dishes and four types of Kushi and Nabe dishes for diversity. Not to be missed are the Platinum Pork and Spinach Roll, Platinum Pork Tempura Kakiage, Miyazaki Wagyu Roll and Char-grilled Herbed Miyazaki Wagyu Dice.
Gourmands could also order combination dishes such as the Japanese Shabu Shabu, Hotpot in Creamy Egg Sauce and Mini Wok Tossed with Vegetables to sample both delicious cuts.
The gastronomic battle runs from April 25 to June 30 every day from 6 pm.
