#legendchats: SK Lam portrays an innate sense of creativity in large-scale sculptures

Even if the name AllRightsReserved is unfamiliar to you, their work will not be – think the 16.5-metre-tall inflatable rubber duck floating on the Victoria Harbour in 2013 or the giant KAWS companion that found its way to Seoul, Taiwan and Hong Kong three years ago. And SK Lam is spearheading the internationally acclaimed Hong Kong-based creative studio known for its monumental installations and large-scale sculptures

Having always had an innate sense of creativity and longing to share it, Lam studied visual communications in Australia before venturing solo with AllRightsReserved, representing a new beginning and his respect for creativity.

What is happiness to you?

SKL: I find happiness easy: working on something I enjoy, exploring new opportunities and learning from others.

Why do you do what you do?

SKL: I just enjoy what I am doing. It’s always good to try new things and work on interesting creations.

How are you currently approaching your art?

SKL: I love to see something cool or amazing. Living with art changes our life, and it comes from anywhere. There’s no boundary line to art.

What occupation would you have chosen if you didn’t choose art?

SKL: Working on interesting projects has been a big part of my life. If I’m not part of it, I will probably go nowhere.

Where do you find your creative inspiration?

SKL: I don’t have a specific way to get inspiration. Everything from daily life gives me inspiration, from the working environment to social media.

What is your greatest achievement?

SKL: Thankfully I’ve had the chance to work on over a hundred projects so far, but they aren’t my greatest achievement. I’d say my way of success is that my team puts in so much effort, and I’m always supported by them.

What is your most treasured possession?

SKL: Probably life and time… just enjoying every second of the day.

What do you think is your biggest flaw?

SKL: Just too many… and becomes perfectly imperfect.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

What are you working on right now, and any upcoming exciting projects?

SKL: We are working on a few new projects and will be announced very soon. Stay tuned!
