Surveillance-Inspired Art Takes Over New York

In their latest collaboration, artist Ai Weiwei and architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron make a chilling sociopolitical statement on public surveillance in ‘Hansel & Gretel’. The subject is particularly pertinent for Ai, who, in fact, was under house arrest at the time of the exhibition opening.

The installation, held at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City uses drones to track viewers’ every movement, then plays back eerie projections of them moving through the space, allowing people to see themselves through the lens of society’s ‘Big Brother’. Visitors can read-up on drones and surveillance on iPads, which also come with facial recognition software.

Watch the live feed and find out more on the exhibition’s official website.

The installation is on show until August 6, 2017. For more information see dezeen.com or visit the exhibition’s website here.
