The Tory Burch Foundation, which empowers female entrepreneurs through access to capital, education and resources, has just launched #EmbraceAmbition. #EmbraceAmbition is a global initiative that seeks to reclaim the word ‘ambition’ from its negative, double-standard associations. For many, the word is seen as a positive trait in men, and a negative one in women. “In one of my first interviews, a reporter mentioned the word “ambitious”, and I commented that the word annoyed me…I realised that I had bought into the stigma that women shouldn’t be ambitious — that it was unattractive. That creates a harmful double standard that we must overcome in order to achieve equality,” said Tory Burch, designer, entrepreneur and founder of the eponymous foundation. The initiative, kicking off today to align with International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, encourages all to visit www.EmbraceAmbition.org and take a digital pledge. The website also has content and tools on confidence and goal-setting, as well as interviews with successful women.
To show your support visit www.EmbraceAmbition.org, and use the #EmbraceAmbition tag on social media. Bracelets and t-shirts are also available, all of the proceeds of which will go back to the Tory Burch Foundation.
