Louis Vuitton teases new Virgil Abloh trunk

The new SS19 trunk features all-black leather handles, matte metallic draw bolts, and clasp.

Louis Vuitton’s newest artistic director, Virgil Abloh, has been playing around with some of the maison’s most iconic designs since he was first appointed earlier this year. Following the designs of his first pair of sneakers for Louis Vuitton, Abloh has now taken the iconic handmade trunk, a signature piece in the collection since the 19th century, and is taking it in a fresh, new direction. Monogram-less, simple and sleek, the new trunk is all black, finished with black detailing, leather handles, matte metallic draw bolts, and a bold clasp.

Founder and designer for OFF-WHITE and Pyrex Vision, Virgil Abloh was appointed creative director for Louis Vuitton in March 2018.

The fashion house has teased only a few shots of the designs and pieces from the opening collection for the Spring/Summer 2019 season on their Instagram page, leaving so much still to the imagination. Up until now, the trunk is our first real taste of what we believe to be a very unconventional yet beautifully couture collection. Nonetheless, as founder and designer for OFF-WHITE and Pyrex Vision, Virgil Abloh’s creative decisions have been nothing short of a success, and we expect no less from his first collection with Louis Vuitton.
