Millennials Dominate the Stage at Grammys 2016

Taylor Swift, in a custom-made, vibrant two piece Atelier Versace look, was the winner of the coveted Best Album of the Year.

Even before the Grammys began last night, the nomination lists were filled with young artists across the most popular categories, proving that this year’s show would be dedicated to recognising the power of millennials who have pushed these stars to the top of the charts.

While the music video showing off her fighting prowess might have been fictional, Taylor Swift certainly proved she was still a force to be reckoned with as she walked away with the most coveted award last night. Her latest album ‘1989’ nabbed the country-turned-pop star Album of the Year in addition to Best Pop Vocal Album, while her neo-noir music video of her and her female posse helped Swift take home the Best Music Video Award. As the only female artist (and youngest) to win the Best Album award twice, Swift had some words of encouragement for her fans: “All the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. If you just focus on the work, and don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday you will get where you are going. You’ll look around, and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”

Another star featured on the Bad Blood music video, Kendrick Lamar, also proved to be an indomitable force; as this year’s most nominated artist with 11 nods, he swept up the Rap categories, adding 4 more awards to his name.

Hot off the heels of their explosive Superbowl Halftime show appearance last week, Bruno Mars and producer Mark Ronson clinched the hotly-contested Record of the Year award as well as the award for best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Ed Sheeran also proved that he’s not slowing down, winning two awards, including Song of the Year for his hit ‘Thinking Out Loud’. Comeback kid Justin Bieber was also present to perform his latest hits on stage, including ‘Where Are Ü Now’, which scored its producers Skrillex and Diplo the Best Dance Recording award. The DJ-duo also won Best Dance/Electronic Award for their debut album ‘Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü’.

Meanwhile two breakout stars also got their chance to walk on stage, with The Weeknd earning himself Best R&B Performance for ‘Earned It’, and Meghan Trainor claiming the Best New Artist Award.
