Lady Art #2: 10 artists reinvent the Lady Dior

Ten international artists from different backgrounds were asked to re-imagine the iconic Lady Dior

After the success of last year’s capsule collection in collaboration with British and American artists, Dior invited a new group of ten artists from around the world to do the same: reinvent the iconic Lady Dior.

The impressive cadre used the bag as a canvas to express their creativity and diversity. The limited-edition pieces will be available soon, to, once again, make the Lady Dior a symbol of innovation and artistry.

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the exclusive creations:

The futuristic vision of Lee Bul

Lee Bul for Dior

Seoul-born and based Lee Bul has been an influential voice of the contemporary art world since she first appeared on the scene in the late 1980s.  With her experimental multi-media installations and sculptures, she depicts notions of collective memory and human consciousness in the social and political spheres. Her futuristic-looking medium-sized Lady Dior explores how progress affects the present and the future through the use of dozens of Plexiglas mirrors.

The African heritage of Nmasa Leuba

Nmasa Leuba for Dior

Swiss-Guinean multi-disciplinary artist Nmasa Leuba’s work focuses on Western perception of the African identity. Questioning some of the stereotypical assumptions of our time, she uses fashion, performance art and photography to explore her heritage. Her Lady Dior bags, inspired by the traditional rituals of the Ndebele people of Zimbabwe and a region of South Africa, make use of fine traditional techniques to evoke the colours of the land she took inspiration from in a blaze of colours and textures.

The poetry of John Giorno

John Giorno for Dior

For over sixty years, poet and performance artist John Giorno has been a central figure of the American art scene. Associated with Andy Warhol and the writers of the Beat Generation, he is widely celebrated for his pioneering poems. “We gave a party for the gods and the gods came” and “You got to burn to shine”, two quotes from his writings, respectively adorn his two reinventions of the Lady Dior.
