Tamara Mellon to Launch New Fashion Business Post Bankruptcy Exit

Jan 18, 2016

Womenswear designer Tamara Mellon has emerged from a 60-day period of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, vowing to reestablish her namesake Tamara Mellon brand with new investors New Enterprise Associates, reports WWD.

Mellon, the former designer and co-founder of Jimmy Choo, filed for Chapter 11 protection in early December last year following underperforming sales at the fashion brand she established in 2011.

Mellon prevailed over her previous investors at court, including David Ross, co-founder of Carphone Warehouse, former Tory trade minister Lord Marland and Icap boss Michael Spencer, who objected to her plans to “take control of her new fashion venture under bankruptcy protection laws,” The Daily Telegraph reports.

Mellon revealed to WWD in a statement that the new investor relationship will “allow us to transition our business model to focus on direct sales to customers via online platforms and company-operated stores.”
